The roads were congested and blighted with roadworks for our Boxing Day drive to Brighton to stay in a fine seafront suite of the Queen’s Hotel on the eve of our 25th Anniversary. Later on, watching the film the "Perfect World" which we thoroughly enjoyed.
We had planned to travel to Brighton today but first we got up, dressed and had our breakfast before I took Sam for his morning walk and Diana packed our suitcases. I had got the children up for breakfast as well and we took this chance to update them on what was to be expected them while we were away. As we started our journey, Daniel took the girls over to their grandparents in Bar Hill to stay. We stopped off at Mimms for a break and then carried on via London to Brighton.

Christmas Sunday visits from a fox and the Jackson family between long and eventful dog walks to the gravel pits.
A lay in for all of us today as Diana did not wake me up until 8.30am and the dog was still tired after his active day of visitors. He was still content when breakfast was ready and so we sat down and ate before I got out with him. Daniel proved unwilling to join me and I walked Sam alone around the gravel pits on a quiet morning.

A frosty, but dry day as the suspected snow did not arrive but a cold one to walk Sam twice and welcome Di's family to enjoy a fine Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings and Christmas pudding and cream and coffee after.
Then to watch H.M. The Queen broadcast her Christmas Message to The Commonwealth of Nations welcoming progress in achieving peace and reconciliation in South Africa and also for the historic peace agreement between Israel and the P.L.O.
A very poor Christmas for some 300 Jamaicans confined in the airport after a holiday plane was subjected to harsh immigration checks
I had stayed up late last night, which was bad enough, but my concurrent enjoyment of some fine Orcadian whisky was the real reason that I was loath to wake and get up this morning. Diana was the one to stir me and soon I was showering and washing my hair before shaving and dressing for breakfast. Half the family being yet to stir and Sam creating to get out made me opt for his company for half an hour and so I walked him to the gravel pits on a cold morning with some slight ground frost. Frosty, but dry as the suspected snow did not arrive here.

Christmas Eve - Winding down activities on this happy day and taking Diana and the girls to The Little Chef for lunch to save her the work of preparing it.
Daniel arrived back early from work around 3.00pm and reported that Tensor staff had been upset by Nigel's decision to go away and leave instructions with his accounts man not to pay their wages until next Friday!
Late to bed after subsequently keeping Diana company until after midnight to celebrate the arrival of Father Christmas and ensure his good works were done. There might be some snow flurries to make the first White Christmas for a good many years.
By now, our arrangements were nearly complete for Christmas and there was not much left to do apart from the normal chores. I still had to get out in the morning and walk Sam, who seems in good form at last. Then a little time to do some work before it was time to take Diana and the girls to The Little Chef for lunch to save her the work of preparing lunch. I had walked Sam for the second time and was just to come in when Daniel arrived back early from work around 3.00pm.
