With Daniel looking after Sam, the rest of us off to the US by the very long British Airways flight from Heathrow Terminal 4 to Los Angeles where we collected a Lincoln Continental Town Car and drove to The Holiday Inn, main gate Anaheim and so our holiday began.
We woke up to the start of a fine day, having plenty of time to get ready to go off to the airport. Daniel fed and exercised Sam whilst I did my packing and loaded up the car. I even had time to stop and help Pat Law whose Renault 2CV had broken down and did this by using the jump leads. Her air filter top had become completely unscrewed and loose so it was no wonder it would not start! A good journey to the airport via the A1 and M25 motorways that make the process much simpler these days. We arrived at the British Airways terminal number four and checked in with time to spare. I had a problem in posting some letters once through into the departure lounge and I had to "land myself" (go out, post them and then come back through the passport control and security checks again).

A Mothers Day visit to Stanton after Dan walked Sam and I first attending to some office work. We arrived with a flower arrangement and a cake and Mum talked about her time as a child in Church Street Edmonton as the girls asked her how it was to be in a family of thirteen children.
Home feeling quite my chesty cold worsening and to discuss with Nigel renovating a derelict property in Cambridge Street. The day started dull and showery and deteriorated into a very wet one by the time we got back.
Diana and the girls were up early for a Sunday, getting excited at the nearing prospect of the holiday in America, and so I got up as well and went out and fed Sam. I collected up all his mess and then managed to keep him away from it for the entire day which was quite good. I cooked Diana and the girls some fried breakfast, but it was only after we had all finished that Daniel emerged. He took Sam for a nice walk, and they got on quite well. An hour or two to work in my office on some correspondence and then we all got ready for the journey to Stanton to see Mum. Sam joined us in the boot and, with the three children in the back, Di and I in the front all sharing space with a flower arrangement and a Mother's Day Cake, we were just about comfortable.

Celebrating Daniel's 21st Birthday early who was grateful if a little overcome. Later watching the English Rugby Union team unexpectedly losing their match against Ireland and Goldie Hawn's "Private Benjamin" film before my journal and to bed.
I have been suffering badly these last few days with a chest infection after a cold and the coughing and my temperature seem to be getting worse
It was not actually Daniel's birthday today (that comes when we are away on holiday on March 27th), but we still treated it as such. Daniel arrived after lunch and then had a birthday tea with us and Diana's parents. He is looking fine and spent an hour this evening with me and the dog and seems to get on well with it. I went into St Neots this morning and got him a present of a filing case for his papers. I also gave him a boxed birthday card with £100 in cash for a night out with the boys and a cheque for £400 for something special. We were pleased to do all that for him and he seemed grateful if a little overcome.

Making telephone calls in connection with buying and letting 14 Regents Close, the first of several investment properties and starting the ending the day with Sam, who is coming on well apart from his disgusting scavenging habit.
Later, collecting foreign currency for our forthcoming US holiday. The weather now is a mixture of hot sun and cold wind so as to make my present chest infection very much worse
Today was a bit like old times as I was making telephone calls and having meetings in connection with buying and letting the first of our new trust properties at 14 Regents Close, Eaton Socon. It was funny to see how young the estate and letting agent personnel were and how easily I was able to negotiate to my satisfaction. Also, to see how my reputation proceeded me so that everyone in business would like to have me as a client. By entering the property market so close to home, I am undoubtedly getting better terms for that reason but there again I suppose that I am one of the very few people around with any money left in this recession!
