With the rest of the country in a mild airstream, Scotland was still cold. Government hassled over teachers’ pay and national health failures.

Meeting Di's parents during a Cambridge trip, and then surviving Della's parents evening and more LibDem wrangles

After the whole country being situated in a mild airstream these last two days, cold weather was now back in the far north of Scotland to remind me of what the weather was like last week.

News of the government intending to phase in the teacher's 2.9% pay rise rather than agree the budget increases needed to fund it in full.

Two reports on the hospital

The Consumer's Association have reported that people are avoiding dental care because of the costs and found traces of Clenbuterol, a growth hormone, in some meat samples, especially from Spain. I was slower to get going this morning after my late bed-time.

I had even gone through Debbie's homework once I had got in late and so it was after 12.30am before I got to bed. Still to breakfast with the others and to the bus stop also where the girls were late arriving as if they had not a care in the world.

A shorter walk for Sam and then into my car for the Cambridge visit; Diana driving as I could then work with my organiser and save time.

We found Di's parents in good health and much fitter than they were a few weeks ago. Diana and I spent a relaxed time looking around WHSmith’s and Heffer's; her at the travel sections and me at computer technology with personal notebook computers and networks the latest interest.

Lunch at the Copper Kettle and then home with Di driving again. Poor news upon my return, as Percy called to tell me of the latest LibDem crisis as Mark Rainer resigns from the party as Stuart Littlewood had not been expelled!

Some work at my desk and then walking Sam before tea, pleasantly surprised that the hours of light now extend beyond 5.00pm.

Calls to and from Mark Rainer and then I got him to my office at The Hayling View where, though short of time to resolve things entirely, I think that I can get him to agree not to announce his formal resignation from the Liberal Democrats until after the elections or until after the chance for the new constituency executive to consider his Stuart Littlewood motion in July.

Percy will try to clear this up with him in the morning as, following a call from Jim this evening, I will try to get across to Carrow Road tomorrow to see Norwich City play in the cup replay and perhaps stay with Wiggly overnight.

A trip to see Mr Anderson, Della's form master in Kimbolton Prep., this evening and to hear how well they think she is doing so that she will have no trouble in going up to the main school this summer, which was all very pleasing at the end of a trying day.
