Twenty world leaders will attend the Polish commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Auschwitz but Jewish leaders are boycotting it in numbers because they think it is being celebrated as a Polish rather than a Jewish event.
Eric Cantonna heard today that his punishment for the attack on a spectator was suspension for the rest of the season and the French are set to drop him from their national team and strip him of the captaincy.
Di grumpy at first, wanting to know why I did not smell of drink last night! Funny thing was that we had a large bottle of wine but not the port that Nigel gives me. Breakfast with the others, making a particular fuss of them as I was spending some time away.
Concern over the mock exam marks that Debbie has got but pleasure over the comments on Della' work. Arranged for Daniel to go to Della's pantomime in my absence and take a video film for us to see when I get back.
Time packing and late to take Sam for a run but then eventually loaded up and ready to go. Into St Neots to get my new glasses and some more supplies and then down to Sandy station by appointment to see Irene.
She calls me every six months or so and I normally decline to see her and just chat a bit for old time's sake but this time she had called me earlier in the week with a compelling story to tell. She was leaving Ralph and going back to Poland and wanted to say goodbye and see me for the last time and so I unwisely agreed to see her.
I had not seen her for ten years and was shocked to see how much she had aged, gained weight and generally deteriorated. I found her all right and then she took me around the houses before we stopped for a walk around Sandy common and foothills and I got Sam out of the car to come with us.
At that time, he seemed all right without limping, but this turned much worse by the end of the day as I walked him and I was worried that he might have a strain or something. Having got rid of my unwanted guest, I headed back to Montague Street where I spent some time packing Wiggly's things with my own ready for the trip.
Then the drive over to Wellingborough where I had to collect Wiggly from her Unilever Manufacturing Research Group training conference. The weather was pouring wet and I had to don waterproofs to keep dry as I gave Sam his last feed and exercise of the day and that was when I could see his paw problems.
Wiggly pleased to see me after her boring conference and we set off north in good heart. The roads became worse with the snow until, with traffic building up on this Friday evening, we stopped off at the Retford Travel Lodge, checked into the hotel and then went to a nearby pub, The Red Lion.
A couple of pints, a nice snack meal of Mediterranean Prawns with Garlic bread and onion rings and then back to the hotel, Sam settling well in his box for the night.
