More than 40 years, told day by day
This dull and windy day spent mostly working at home, relieved that Daniel had returned home safely with his car. A better day training Sam and working on my computer software.
An attack by a protester firing two shots at Prince Charles in Australia, fortunately, a starting pistol filled with blanks was marked by the dignity and bravery shown by Charles
A productive day; if a little dull again. The weather very windy overnight as I sat up to wait for Daniel to get home from his expedition. I was up until midnight and then checked for his car in the drive at 2.30am and it was still not there which was worrying. I heard his story at breakfast.

I decided to join Diana on a much milder day today and dry and even sunny at times for a shopping trip to Cambridge but Sam escaped over the wall as we shopped and a neighbour looked after him until we got back.
This evening to Peterborough with Diana to see a good if poignant British film called "The Remains of the Day" starring Anthony Hopkins
I decided to join Diana for a shopping trip to Cambridge and there bought a book on the Excel 4 application and also a new 250 MByte Tape Streamer for backing up our computer systems. Home via the A45 pet shop and The Little Chef for lunch. Before all this, I had another good session with Sam who undertook some water retrieves and responded well to jumping lessons over stiles and fences.

A good training day for Sam, retrieving well, and a steady work day for me, comforting Di with regard to her extended bleeding she has suffered before periods since the summer.
Just my journal this evening and then I watched a thrilling game of football on TV where Norwich City drew 3-3 away to West Ham in an open and skilful game.
This must have been one of the best days for training Sam that I have had for a while. During this morning's run, he was obedient and undertook a few water retrieves and then later he was proficient at retrieves with the dummy launcher and from hand into all manner of terrain. To cap it all, he finally managed to leap a high stile that I had been encouraging to do and leapt back again with the dummy soundly in his mouth as well.

On a dry but cooler and cloudy day, I concentrated on an office day to catch up with my correspondence and work on my late Mum’s estate and my children’s trust portfolio. Also a nice time with Diana and lunch of beef teriyaki.
The death of Radio 4 Today Programme's presenter Brian Redhead and, following the death of Brian Johnston, B.B.C. radio has suffered a double blow.
A tough day catching up with another host of correspondence and I noted that there were nine letters to post at the end of it. The most difficult were those concluding my instructions for the purchase of our third children’s trust investment property, where my solicitors were making rather a meal of it.

A slow start after a late and cold night and then Debbie off to school as I get out with Sam for some waterwork on a milder day before taking Diana and the girls to The Happy Eater as their choice for lunch. There an unfortunately bad service.
Back home this afternoon to see some good Rugby League on the TV with Wigan being soundly beaten for once by Leeds in the Trophy Cup Final. We had a new satellite aerial, tuner and decoder installed this morning and the picture quality was much improved.
I excelled myself last night and stayed up even later than usual and was then too cold to get to sleep easily. This until I switched my electric blanket on to maximum, fell asleep and then found myself waking up so hot that I was like a cat on a hot tin roof! Diana was not best pleased. A shower and then dressed last for breakfast. Debbie off to school and me out with Sam.

The weather stayed fine and mild today and the wind and rain held off until after dark. I was creosoting the far side of the Heronshaw garage, setting the alarm and then walking Sam before driving from Horning to Paxton.
Membership details on the British Deer Society awaited me on my return together with the latest version of P.C. Maritime Navigator. I tried this new software until far too late with Della watching me for company.
Another reluctant start after another late night but I eventually got shaved, dressed, had my cereal breakfast and got out with Sam for a long walk across Crabbett's Marsh road. Quite tired after getting back and so chose to do the final set-up from the alarm system for which I could just sit on a stool. Then out to creosote the far side of the garage as I had got permission from Doris Vincent to get on her drive for that purpose. Chatted to her also about the property and road maintenance as well as the recent floods for the water level had been up high again with the northerly winds.
