A panic with the pool this morning being under temperature with the playgroup due to arrive later but they seemed happy enough and then some video editing of Thormaid and Debbie to horse-riding on a warm and humid day as US President Reagan is revealed as having approved an ‘arms for hostages’ deal with Iran and three police as attackers of five boys but main news is of scores of campers being killed by floods in the Haute-Savoie French camp site whilst at home British Rail axes 9,000 jobs.
A sound night’s sleep and awoke to my morning tea. The normal routine and times up to breakfast before popping out to see Pete the gardener. There had been some rain overnight and we hoped it would do some good after the garden has had three weeks without rain. I settled into the lounge to archive yesterday’s video films of Thormaid and then wrote up yesterday’s journal that fell victim to the late night. A panic broke out as we found the pool boiler had stopped working due to a clogged filter whilst I was away. The temperature was down to 74degF with the ‘Rising 5s’ playgroup due to visit us after lunch.

Visit with Daniel by car and plane via Castle Donnington, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Wick to Thormaid where our forestry estate was reviewed with Fountain Forestry staff and I had a fair insight into the recent politics of afforestation in the ‘flow district’. All is well and we return safely after a long day. France fall out with Tehran over spying, the UK sabotages the European IT programme, 72 people die as a result of a Karachi shopping centre bombing and half a million metalworkers strike in South Africa
Having prepared my clothes and items to take to Thormaid last night, I was well prepared for the off this morning. Awake before 4.00am, then got up, showered, shaved and dressed in time to eat a bowl of cereal before it was time to set off. All into the Daimler with the video and briefcase of forestry papers by 4.45am, allowing at least 2 hours for the journey. We made our way north up the A1 dual carriageway and then west along the A67 through the centre of Leicester joining the M1 motorway for the last stretch to Castle Donnington and the East Midlands Airport for the flight to Wick.

Working with Daniel and his friends renovating his old boat, Aquabean, and also editing and archiving my video films and buying more accessories ready for our impending visit to Thormaid as Diana had some friends round to swim in the pool and has lost a few pounds slimming. The Labour Party shadow cabinets is completed, Liverpool fans involved in the Heysel Stadium riot are extradited and The freemasons are criticised by the Church of England but the government seems to have lost the MI5 Spycatcher issue.
Awoke very early, as the dawn was much colder and brighter than the dusk. Got up, closed a few windows and curtains and then put some bedclothes back on to get comfortable and then slept soundly until the arrival of my morning tea at 7.00am. On with the radio and then up slowly, getting washed, showered, shaved and dressed only just in time for breakfast. The family quite happy at this morning meal. Got Daniel to help me after, to set up all the videos, so that I could copy between them and edit tapes and I then settled down this morning to the process of collating our first two years Broubster forestry filming and getting them ready for another addition tomorrow.

With Charlie and Chrisula visiting with Catherine, we took them for a walk and on to Little Paxton Playing Field before ice creams at the Post Office stores and home then off to the Croxton Happy Eater with everyone for lunch before we all see Debbie take her ballet test and get a ‘commendation’ for her bronze medal and then see Nigel Mansell win the British Grand Prix as Peter Wright’s MI5 revelations are published in the Sunday Times and Hindus protest about Hertsmere Borough Council closing their temple.
Slept well enough, but the night turned quite cool and I awoke and had to snuggle up to Di to keep warm. Di cooked and prepared breakfast for eight of us and Charlie and Chrisula eventually awoke and came down and so we all ate breakfast at 8.30 and were finished by 9.00am. Out to the ducks and doves, then I persuaded the company to go for a walk to the swings and around Little Paxton. A good walk on a dull, but warm morning, but Daniel kept shooting ahead by pushing Daniella in the push chair and actually tripped over his shoe lace and let her go flying forward once.
