Cleaning the cars today and remonstrating with my neighbour whose cars were blocking the Willow Close turning spaces after Debbie has Amy to stay the night and before we take a trip to the garden centre with just a few election chores undertaken today. The Kuwait hijack continues with twelve terrorists now armed with machine guns threatening the rest of the hostages and a Pakistani ammunition dump blows up raining down rockets and shells on Islamabad, the capital, for an hour killing some 60 people and injuring 800 others
Awoke quite early this morning and kicked Diana out of bed to make the morning tea. Then showered and dressed so as to be in good time for a nice fried breakfast. Debbie had Amy to stay the night and they were up early, running around the house, before Debbie tripped and hurt her knee. After breakfast, I got out the Range Rover and Rolls Royce and proceeded to vacuum clean the inside of both of them. The Rolls took the time, as the black carpet and seats attracts the bits. I adjusted the front seat belt brackets to keep the belts out of the way and then took out the battery from the boot and cleaned it up.

More canvassing this morning in Little Paxton on a cold day with wintry showers and then to start canvassing in Southoe after which I walked around Little Paxton looking at the problems that has been raised with me. The Kuwaiti airline hijackers have tortured and then shot a Kuwaiti Army officer
Slept well enough after my recent efforts, but awoke first to find Diana having a lay in. Showered and ready for my cereal breakfast. I am always on time these days and Daniel is the late one! To my office, where I sorted out today’s canvass work and analysed that from yesterday. Fed the doves and ducks before Michael Pope came and we went out canvassing. He dealt with the outstanding postal vote forms and I canvassed around Sweeting Avenue and Booth Way, getting as many as possible of the residents who were formerly out. It was spitting with rain this morning and still very cold, so that it was actually snowing at one point. Home for lunch, where I took Diana and the children to the Little Chef for our meal. Back to it after lunch, this time to start our canvass of Southoe. We started at the A1 end of Lees Lane and slowly worked towards the centre. One good contact was the Parish Council Chairman, who supports my efforts, welcomed my visit, and has agreed to take a flag board in his garden!

To Bedford to get the Rolls Royce MOT whilst going for a shopping trip with Diana and home for a fruitful evening’s canvassing with three helpers as the Kuwaiti hijack takes on a new dimension as it is allowed to fly to Cyprus. A soaring British pound forces interest rate reductions to 8%, a 10-year low, and the rain eventually came late tonight after a dry fortnight
Started the day early and sorted out the results of yesterday’s work. Then Moria called with the latest canvass analysis, which looked very encouraging. Then I gathered the family together and we took off in the Rolls Royce for Bedford and its appointment for an MOT. A little trouble finding Alec Normans and then we needed a taxi to get to the town centre. Had a long and tiring morning, following Diana and Daniel around the clothing shops, getting him new trousers etc. This was really no relaxation and rest from canvassing! Lunch at Debenhams, further shopping and then collected the Corniche with its new MOT properly done.

A full day of canvassing on a dry but chilly day with five part-time helpers as we hear that the Tory ‘Lady from St Ives’ is standing again. The Soviet plan is to start withdrawing from Afghanistan on May 15th, the British hostages are released from the hi-jacked Kuwaiti airliner, more Palestinians are killed by Israeli troops with a stray bullet killing an Israeli girl as well and the city fraud investigations claim a new victim in David Mayhew
Awoke early and found Diana still in bed for some early morning contact! Then breakfast of wheat flakes and milk, before I scanned the national newspaper for news. Di had taken the car and the girls swimming first thing and was back for 10.00am, when Joe Wilcox and Michael Pope came round to start canvassing. We finished off a number of partial roads and the weather was dry and kind to us again – though very chilly. Home in time for lunch and then Rob Williams was here after to help me, if arriving rather late. I stayed at my desk writing envelopes for the Paxton Hall patients until he arrived. A trying canvass, with Rob full of petty advice and then his wife came over to interrupt us half way through.
