A cooler day after an overnight shower as I lay in and then spend much of today cleaning and polishing the Range Rover before enjoying a nice lunch of roast lamb and then, in the afternoon, working on my Little Paxton Mills history whilst keeping Daniel revising for his intermediate maths exams. The tragic airbus crash today killed four but miraculously save the rest of the 127 passengers. Police detectives make progress in investigating the murder of Mrs Marie Wilks and an eight year old girl in two separate incidents.
Must have been very tired last night, because I slept in until Di came with a mug of tea at 8.00am. As I had been swimming and washed my hair last night, I just had a shave and was right ready for my fried breakfast when it was done. Dragged myself reluctantly outside then to clean the Range Rover and spent most of the morning on it. I was annoyed that there was a plot-holder’s Rover in the way and so I had to vacuum the car outside my drive and then shampoo and hose it as near as I could. I decided to go the whole hog and actually polish it as well and I was quite tired out afterwards. Was a bit worried whilst I was out there; Della was cycling on the pavement on her tricycle and the black Avenger from David McGinness’s house started up and reversed out suddenly and could easily of run her over, if I hadn’t have shouted and run across and stopped her. A nice lunch of roast lamb today, which I carved for Diana and we all enjoyed eating it. This afternoon and evening, I worked on my Little Paxton Mills history and finished printing it out and copying the relevant photographs and pictures on to it.

A very warm and sunny day at home making my own breakfast, sailing on the river and watering my lawn and the hanging baskets and then lunch in the back garden with the girls who had invited friends swimming in our pool before I organised a barbecue by the river and played ball until going swimming the girls. Then an evening on my Little Paxton history as TUC president Norman Willis makes an appeal to the electricians union for unity in vain.
Was awake very early this morning and heard the dawn chorus and some rowdy anglers on the other river bank making themselves heard as well. I closed the curtains and dozed off a little before getting up quite early to get showered and dressed in time for breakfast. I sat and read today’s newspaper for a while, but had a bit of a headache. Made myself French toast for breakfast and was upset with Diana for not doing it for me. Head still rather groggy and so I took the sailing dingy up and down the river a couple of times. The breeze was up and the sun was getting warmer all the time and so I watered the flower baskets and got the sprinkler going on the games lawn as well. Did a little work on my history this morning, but mostly read the post and paper until a cup of strong coffee got me going.

I slept well, despite a warm and muggy night, and then mowed the lawn before taking some calls on Council business and working on my Little Paxton history book. Off to Huntingdon in the Rolls-Royce for my District Council planning seminar as Diana attended the Kimbolton Prep Department sports day and then visiting several constituents this evening and delivering the last of my FOCUS leaflets. The King’s Cross fire enquiry reveals deficiencies in London Transport safety, Methodist leader the Rev Richard Jones attacks British Tory capitalism and social injustice.
A good night’s sleep, despite the warm & muggy weather, due to our opening balcony doors. A bit slow to get up this morning and so wore my dressing gown to breakfast and showered and shaved afterwards. Read the incoming mail and was distracted again this morning. I went out and mowed the games lawn, so that we could start watering it and then I had a few calls on Council business. Worked a little while on my Mill History chapter, until it was time to make myself a salad lunch. This afternoon, I drove to Huntingdon for a District Council Planning Seminar and had to take the Rolls Royce, as Diana was in the Range Rover at the Kimbolton Prep Department sports day.

Some time this morning reviewing the HDC computer installation plans and agreeing a course of action with the computer manager and then this afternoon drafting press releases in the aftermath of the Environmental Services Committee after which I took Debbie horse riding and delivered my press releases. Then this evening attending the Southern Area Members Consultative Committee meeting of the council where I promote the ideas of a St Neots Cinema and Sports Centre. A British army helicopter was downed in Northern Ireland after its tail section was shot away, York’s Rowntree is given in and accepted an offer from Swiss Nestlé, and hundreds of people are feared dead in a Turkish landslide near the Black Sea.
Awoke today to another bright and sunny morning, with warm and close conditions set for the day. A little late down to my breakfast of boiled egg and then I spent the morning on a number of things that I had not intended. In particular, the mail was full of council papers and an item on the Council’s computer installation caught my eye. They had expanded to a near mainframe and the classical debate was taking place on whether to continue to write their own software, or buy in, packages for the new Poll Tax and Competitive Tendering Schemes imposed by central government. I made a number of phone calls researching the background, then spoke to the District Council Computer Manager and was then reassured to hear that his ideas were in tune with mine. By this time lunch was ready and I spent this afternoon drafting press releases and accompanying letters for the stories arising from the Environmental Services Committee.
