After a good night in Beccles, we could not use the facilities as we wanted to and so we walked into the centre to have lunch and do some shopping before returning to the boats and setting off against the tide to Oulton Broad. Then the walk along the banks of Lake Lothing to Lowestoft, which we found in poor shape, returning in time to witness the power-boating in Oulton Broad whilst also catching fish
We had a nice night in Beccles, but I noticed just how much the river rises and falls at this place. The ‘low’ bridge had between 8 & 9 feet headroom at low water. Di tried another wash at the service building, but the machine was full. I tried to fill up with water from the hoses and the two nearest were each a couple of feet to short, which was quite frustrating. After breakfast, the girls and I tried fishing but the tide was flowing and so we all went shopping in Beccles.

After our night in Bursa Peter we did some washing, filled up with water and cruised upstream on the Waveney to get to Beccles in mid-afternoon, Daniel in his speedboat as I towed the little lady. We went shopping in this nice town and I bought Diana a painting from the Beccles artists exhibition and then we did some fishing. The news is of the rebel England cricket tour to South Africa and the fact that so many frontline players are involved. More Middle East kidnappings, in East Anglia, a helicopter crashes killing four soldiers and injuring others.
We awoke in Burgh St Peter (the Waveney Inn) after a good night sleep and we seemed none the worse for the high water levels overnight. Diana did her last washing load of three pairs of jeans, whilst I filled up The Lady with water and then we set off upstream on the Waveney to get to Beccles in mid-afternoon. Daniel ran into a River Inspector again – this time to challenge him not being registered for his speedboat – and so we bought a temporary permit for £7.84 which was very cheap. He drove it all the way whilst I towed the Little Lady.

With the strong wind and tide, we decided the weather was too unsettled to go to Fritton Lake and so we set off and made Burgh Castle before lunch in order to eat in the Waveney Inn carvery. Then some fishing, games on the lawn and a chance to phone my Dad who remains in constant pain. The noble efforts of the dockers end today with the collapse of the dock strike and England lose the fourth Test to Australia and the players plan a tour of South Africa in defiance of the administrators
We woke this morning to rain and a strong wind which, with the tide, made navigation difficult. We watched several sailing and motor cruisers struggling before we decided what to do. The weather was to unsettled to go to Fritton Lake and so we set off and made Burgh Castle (St Peter) before lunch. We had a nice lunch in the carvery and then Daniel managed to start his engine and was in his seventh heaven for the rest of the day. We had a swim this afternoon and then tea in the boat.
