An uncomfortably warm night in my sleeping bag and a noisy one with youths abusing the playground opposite but Daniel was okay sleeping in the saloon. We set off upstream through Eaton Socon Lock and moored at the Jordan and Addington riverside garden centre and looked at the craft shop in the Mill before quickly cruising upstream to Tempsford and mooring at The Anchor for lunch. On through Willington to walk to the garden centre there for ice creams, passing lots of anglers on the way with Diana helping to work the locks.
Not a very good night. I was too warm in my sleeping bag and then there were youths abusing the playground equipment opposite and I went over to sorted out, but they had gone by then. It was quite cooler this morning after an overnight gale had got up. Daniel was comfortable in the central saloon but complained that he was feeling too cold before we enjoyed breakfast in our boating tradition after which I started up The Lady to set off as we had a way to go. We cruised on up-stream until we came to Eaton Socon lock, which was set in our favour but turned into the moorings there and had a morning drink at the riverside garden centre; the Jordan and Addington.

A shock this morning when The Lady was missing from her mooring, after being unmoored by youths in the night, but we found it downstream and returned it without harm. Later to set off on her through Paper Mill lock to moor in St Neots as the rain spoiled the carnival procession before we moved and spent the night moored at the Coneygeare.
The news today was of the opening of the ‘Rest of the World’ versus ‘South Africa’ rugby tour and in the aftermath in Poland of the new political changes, labour strikes are put off to give the new Solidarity Prime Minister a chance
I had a short night after my late-night efforts but still awoke myself before Di brought my tea. Imagine, my shock and surprise when I looked out to the river and saw our boat The Lady had disappeared! I dressed quickly and I called the police and got Daniel up whilst I talk to the neighbours to see if they had seen anything. We then set off in Daniel’s speedboat and, after a little search, found The Lady adrift around the river bend. It had been untied by youths in the night and had drifted there.

Today, the Tomlins visited for a barbecue lunch after Daniel and I set up the barbecue and prepared the lawn for croquet. It was pouring with rain later and so we lent the Tomlins costumes and went swimming. Back to setting up my investment software this evening working until very late. We had our wasps nests destroyed today. England struggled again in the sixth and final Test against Australia.
Today was our last day at home and we were expecting old neighbours and friends, John and Brenda Tomlin and family, to come for a barbecue lunch. Di woke me up early and I set to and did my morning routines. No Joan or Pete today and so we had to feed the animals and water the plants and flower baskets.

After another good night, and attending to our chores, we set off for Norfolk, foregoing a visit to my parents at their request. We arrived in Horning just in time for a solicitors’ and then an estate agents’ meeting to review the purchase of Heronshaw. after which we looked at some possible new boats.
Lech Walesa is sworn in as the new Polish Solidarity Premier, Merthyr Tydfil faces the closures of the Hoover factory as well as their mines and the Voyager space probe sends back pictures of Neptune after a 12 year voyage
I had another good night and a reasonable start to embark upon an active day. Firstly to breakfast and then the need to attend our plants and creatures in the absence of Pete and Joan. I got Daniel to supervise the swimming pool as well, which had quite a lot of straw smuts on it and needed the filter back flushing. By about 9:30am we were ready to leave for our day in Norfolk.
