I had another late night and was up late, but still found time to spend with my daughters before school and settling down to my history work, and problems with my gardener and fish. Later, distributing more Focus leaflets batches for delivery and completing my chapter on St James’s Church, Parish and Poor and taking it round to the Rev Peter Lewis for his comments. Then undertaking a complete backup of my computer data as I sat and wrote my journal. I was late to bed again last night and suffered for it this morning, being late to breakfast again but at least Della awoke at the same time and we ate together. I also had a chat with Debbie before she set off for school and then played with Daniella, with balloons, before her departure. It seems that Della has a boyfriend at school (aged 7/8) which is quite a thing as she is only four! Di went off to do her weekly shopping today, buying the food for the week to come; and I settled down to my history work. Well, I tried to, but I had several interruptions and other matters to deal with. Uppermost, were the problems of the gardener Pete, who had been wrestling with the connections to my garden water supply and causing many leaks and much mud until I went to sort him out. The fish are a bit livelier today but would not take my food laced with antibiotics and still seem to have inflamed or infecting girls as they stay near the surface and look quite distressed at times. I got back to my project this afternoon and again after tea this evening until I finished my chapter on St James’s Church, Parish and Poor and made a copy to take round to the Rev Peter Lewis as a consultation copy.

A slower start after a late night and then some reservations after eating a fried breakfast that I had not had enough recent exercise to justified. Distributing batches of my focus leaflets to delivery helpers today and then delivering Diddington myself before driving down to Avenue fisheries to return loan equipment and get further advice on my ailing Koi. This afternoon, a good meeting with Mr and Mrs Drake and their daughter Lisa agreeing grooming and riding schedules for Sundance. A private London hospital has been exposed paying for living kidney donors
Diana let me lay in for an hour this morning which was just as well as I had been up very late last night finishing off the second section of my chapter on Little Paxton church. After my shower and shave, I went down and had a fried breakfast and suffered a little bit of conscience, as I have not been getting enough exercise lately for that much fatty food and calories. This morning, I took round my parcels of focus leaflets to my delivery helpers, which always takes a long time as I have to chat to each of them to keep them happy and thank them. I also actually delivered to Diddington myself. Then down the A1 to Sandy and the carp man at Avenue Fisheries. I return the equipment from loan and then told him how the smaller one had not survived its first night in isolation. Also, how the rest do not seem to want to eat the pellet soaked in antibiotic and are reverting to the habit of mouthing the service and gasping a bit.

After learning of the closure of Offord Riding School, I speak firstly to owner Fiona about buying her pony Sundance and then to Lisa Drake’s family about sharing its care. The St Neots Beefeater had arranged a non-smoking area for our lunch after my intervention
Yesterday, I had taken Debbie to horse riding lesson at Offord and spoke to Fiona, the owner, about her decision to close it down. She suggested buying a horse and using the facilities there as a livery and recommended that Sundance, an 11-year-old gelding, was a suitable mount for Deborah. I asked about a second rider, perhaps without money, who could share in the use and care of Sundance if we decided to buy him. Later, I spoke to the family of Lisa Drake, who lives in Little Paxton and regularly rides the pony. We asked them to think about the commitment and they called me back later today and said they wanted to help anyway. We had a nice lunch at the Bridge Beefeater today, they had arranged a non-smoking area and very good service after had made my recent representation.

I was again concerned with the health of my Koi this morning and then spent the day fulfilling a photo-call with the Ramply family for the Express and working on my history of Little Paxton clerics, poor laws and charities. The dramatic inauguration of US President George Bush took place as more Boing air-liner faults cause safety concerns. 1,000 protesters support Viraj Mendis in Manchester after his deportation to Sri Lanka
I had a good night’s sleep after an 11.00pm retirement. After breakfast, I tended the fish was a bit concerned that they were not eating. The large Kohaku is the most worrying. At least the nitrite and ammonia levels are down to virtually zero. I then spent the morning working on my history until a late lunch at 1.15pm. It was a pork pie salad that I had to make myself, as Diana was off to Bedford buying wall lights and looking at furniture for the lounge. After lunch, I made my way to my ‘photo-opportunity’ to meet the Ramply’s and have our picture taken by the Express newspaper. Di was not back and so I took the Rolls-Royce which still had an exhaust leak. The photographer was late and so I chatted to Jack Ramply and his daughter-in-law, Helen, as we waited. After all this, I drove on to Southoe to see the people of Lees Lane council houses where the contractors were installing the new central heating and had been doing a bad job and upsetting them.
