After seeing off Daniel for his successful work experience with Systems Support of Cambridge and collecting Della after her horse-riding exam, we took the girls for a Centre Parks Visit to meet up with the Bloom family who had paid for us as guests.
As the Gulf conflict deadlines approach, . USA intelligence agrees with the Iraqi claims that they have over half of a million troops and more than 4000 tanks dug in on the front line as the UK Foreign Minister, Douglas Hurd, frantically lobbied other European governments by 'phone against their idea of getting some talks going.
Today was a bit milder and quieter than of late after strong winds and rain.
Diana and I actually managed to sleep in the same room last night and then Diana was first up this morning to get the morning drinks. She also made sure that Daniel was up and about as he was going in to get some work experience at Systems Support at Cambridge. Breakfast together (apart from Daniel who had already left with impressive enthusiasm) and then I took Della into my office and helped her with some sums whilst I started to sort out my "Domesday Book" edition. She did quite well but is having some difficulty with "carrying" on addition. Then Diana took her off to a horse-riding session and later, when she had returned, I was pleased to hear that she had passed the "Grade 1 horse-riding test of proficiency" as it would give her confidence for forthcoming Kimbolton Entrance Test later this month.

Whilst they were away, I worked on with my project and was just finishing it by the time they got back. Debbie was at home also, reading "Black Beauty" which she enjoyed but found quite sad. Then (apart from Daniel who was still at work), the rest of us took off for Centre Parks, stopping off on the way for a fuel stop and a "Happy Eater" lunch. We got to our destination soon after 2.00pm and met up with the Bloom family who had paid for us as guests. Stephen Bloom and I gave the girls a head start to go swimming whilst we chatted a while and then we joined them. The water chutes and facilities are very good there but the girls were a bit fragile and made a fuss about nothing at all and so our enjoyment was affected. Then I took the girls roller skating and they made another fuss until we just had time to get our tea there and go. I do not know what it is about the girls that makes them argue and misbehave so and they themselves do not know what they really want.
Then home when I spent the rest of the evening on my computer after Daniel had installed some new software. He seems to have got on quite well with the Systems Support people today and is all set to go back anyway. The news today was of the Gulf conflict again as it will be for the next fortnight as the deadline gets nearer. USA intelligence agrees with the Iraqi claims that they have over half of a million troops and more than 4000 tanks dug in on the front line; but on all else they are at loggerheads and refusing to negotiate or compromise. The EEC is keen to get some talks going but UK Foreign Minister, Douglas Hurd, is frantically lobbying other European governments by 'phone against the idea. Even so, the French send an unofficial emissary. The UK also asks all families of British workers in the Yemen and Jordon to leave the region (having already asked them to leave Saudi Arabia and the UAE) and more reserves are being called up; this time for the Navy. Today was a bit milder and quieter than of late after strong winds and rain. There are more high winds forecast up to and including the weekend.
