Progressing Kimbolton School Bus issues and then a shopping and haircut visit to St Neots and then making a good contribution to a full HDC Council Meeting after announcing to my reasons for retiring in May at the end of my current term. Sat exhausted in the playroom with the family watching the film "Overboard" and enjoying it until a short session writing and then to bed, tired, at 10.15pm.
It was the first day back on the school bus for Della today and it stopped, as planned, in Gordon Road for our daughters to board. Di was a bit upset, however, that the bus driver maintained that this was now to be the only official bus stop and that all the other children would have to walk across the village to here! I called the Domestic Bursar, John, who seemed to confirm this as policy but later on I found out that the other driver was stopping in two places in the village tonight and planning to do the same in the morning. I went out with Diana to St Neots afterwards and we had coffee together at Brackenbury's before I went for a hair cut and Di some shopping at Waitrose.

Home for lunch and a couple of hours preparation for this afternoon's full Huntingdonshire District Council Meeting and also to draft the final versions of my letter to district colleagues explaining my reasons for retiring in May at the end of my current term. The meeting was a good one and, despite Michael's absence again, we made a fair contribution. In fact it did not finish until after 7.00pm, there being many budget issues and concerted attempts by the opposition to highlight the plight of the homeless. I gave Sally a lift home and explained my reasons for my letter and she understood. Derek was sad. Sat exhausted in the playroom with the family watching the film "Overboard" and enjoying it until a short session writing and then to bed, tired, at 10.15pm.
