A productive flying visit with Di to Wroxham where I successfully installed and tested my Wayplan cable on the Paxton Princess and decided the fridge insulation needed improvement. Home in time to collect Della from the school bus and Debbie from the Gym Club after. Then planning the river piling in Horning with Mr Amis and reading HDC papers until hearing from my S.W. Cambs colleagues who were concerned at my retirement and preparations for the General Election in the St Neots area

I was very tired last night and did not think that I would be able to drive to Norfolk today. However, over breakfast, I asked Diana if she would like to come and join me and do some shopping in Wroxham whilst I worked on the Paxton Princess and she agreed and off we went. We had loaded in time to leave by 9.15am and the journey took until 11.30am as we stopped for coffee at Snetterton. I managed to successfully-test my new Wayplan cable which worked fine; displaying its new location symbol at the logged position. Di returned for lunch at the cafe, and we had a nice bowl of soup and cottage pie to follow.

After this, I just had time to take out the cooker and look at how the refrigerator cabinet was insulated and found, as I suspected, that it was not adequate. To improve on it, I would have to take out the old polystyrene insulation and much of the cabinetry, before providing some new formaldehyde foam insulation but I think that the effort would be worthwhile. Then the journey back, getting Diana home with half an hour to spare before Della was due to alight from the school bus. After tea, I drove and collected Debbie from school after Gym Club and then settled down in my office to do some work. I telephoned Mr Amis and booked him to start work on my foundation pilings in two weeks’ time.

He will do these and the digging in the month of march and then return to do the quay-heading after Easter. We will go for wooden piles in quantity and now have to decide where we want them and how many are needed to support what load. Read a host of HDC committee papers picked up at the council meeting the other day and also spoke to the new S.W.Cambs LibDem Chairman who is coming to see me tomorrow afternoon. Together with a fax I received today from Sue Sutton, my colleagues are concerned about the preparations for the General Election in the St Neots area, my retirement from Council and want me to spend all possible time on political matters. I will have to tell them that I have many other things competing for my time.
