The day of my Mum Grace Broad's funeral which was very well attended by friends and family; aided by the coach I had laid on, and the wake went well too. The Rev Peter Lewis and Churchwardens of St James Church did us proud.
The weather was misty and dull, but the wind was slight and the rain held off until after the service and burial. I found the day quite tiring but then I was called early by Diana and took the dog on a particularly exhausting walk so that he would not get restless during the day and start barking at the visitors. Diana's family arrived around 10.30am and did the catering as the coach soon followed. On board were Freda, Alf and Jane Butterfield, Ivy and Arthur Barrett with Keith. Colin and June and then Fred and Marie Thomas and a lot of people from Shepherds Grove Park. Some former colleagues of Dad also arrived early; Harry with whom he had worked as a partner for fifteen years brought by Derek who Dad had introduced to the job.

Meeting with PC Phil Moores about the disturbance of the motor cyclist on Little Paxton footpath and then running up the Rolls Royce after Daniel arrived.
Diana let me lay in for quite a while this morning and I was horrified to see it was 8.00am by the time I woke up. I pulled some clothes on over my pyjamas and then took out Sam's food and gave him a walk before joining the girls for breakfast. A rush to get showered, shaved and dressed before the arrival of the community policeman, PC Phil Moores. He was investigating my complaint about the behaviour of the youths who were riding on the footpath, and we walked over to 69 Gordon Road together hoping to find the youth in so that I could identify him.

Taking Sam with me to the shops to overcome his nervousness and then to see the Rev Peter Lewis with the service sheets and managing to start the Rolls Royce for my Dad’s funeral.
Walking out of a St Neots Café due to another customer smoking and then taking the family to lunch at The Willington Garden Centre and noting the poor state of the swimming pool.
A huge IRA bomb in a dumper truck in the City of London, injures 30 people with at least one killed;
I got Della to join me in taking Sam for a walk this morning, but the trouble was that he jumped up on her and put her in a bad mood. Even so, I made her continue to come with me and we took him to the local shops where Della got her Saturday sweets. Sam is no longer so used to shops and was quite nervous so that I will have to take him for a walk through the streets more often. I then joined the girls for a trip to St Neots, dropping off at the vicarage in St James Road on the way to see the Rev Peter Lewis with the service sheets.

The trip to collect my new rifles from Ling and back home to gather the Service Sheets for my Dad’s funeral and then walking Sam on the Common.
I was hoping to hear from Nigel first thing this morning as he was going to let me know whether he could come with me to Ling of Hoxne to pick up my rifles. I still had first to go out with Sam and had got off to a late start as I was not in time to accompany the girls to the bus stop. By the time I got back it was just before 9.00am, Diana had gone off shopping and once I had got some more cash from town and managed to contact Nigel; it was half an hour later and he could not come. The journey went quite well until I got to the Diss area where the roads were all up and diversions were in place.
