As stricken boxer Gerald McClenan's now critical, Barings has now gone into Administration despite a Bank of England team working over the weekend to attempt a rescue operation.

Other banks were not willing to help when the extent of the exposure was unknown. Evidently, the British banks were very cooperative but it was an International problem.

Nick Leeson, a 28-year-old currency trader is now missing and had lost at least £500m on Japanese Equities with the ultimate losses increased by further falls by 3% in the Nickei over night. T

he pound has slumped to an all-time low against the German Mark and there are fears for what will happen in the financial markets this morning as they will realise that Barings positions have to be unwound.

I have marvelled at the dizzy heights reached by Japanese shares with unbelievable P/E ratios. The row over the earnings of the Chairmen and Chief Executives of privatised utilities has been fuelled again by the position of David Jeffries, of the National Grid, His salary of £300,000 will be swollen by at least a further £1.2m and up to £1.5m share options.

Doubts still remain about how the nine Tory rebels will vote on Thursday's Opposition day, when another motion will be debated on Europe. Stricken boxer Gerald McClenan's condition has marginally-improved and his family have now joined him in hospital. Nigel Benn has said that if he dies, he will give up the sport.

The morning and evening working away on my St Ives report and also getting Debbie and Diana to help me balance the bank account (by transferring £1000 from Debbie's account). I walked Sam this morning in yet more drizzle but Debbie looked after him later this afternoon.

Earlier, I had taken Diana to a lunch at the Pizza Hut and then to the cinema to see Shallow Grave. My overnight steam over Wiggly solved itself by her first emailing me a conciliatory message and then me telephoning her briefly to arrange to call her in the evening.

When I did, I then called over to see her and made things up. Her meeting with her ex-college friend was a low-key affair, with her train being late and them deciding not to go to a club after all. She had been with both a girlfriend, Tracey,  and Mike to the cinema last night and had specially stayed home this evening to await my call.

Either she is silver-tounguing me or I have misunderstood her and so in any event we kissed and cuddled and parted sweethearts tonight again. Home to do some CIX reading, my journal and then to bed at midnight again. Pity was that I had chosen the wrong film this afternoon as Wiggly had seen River Wild yesterday!
