More than 40 years, told day by day
On another cold but a much brighter day I was up reluctantly suffering fro my head cold but got out with Sam who acquitted himself well. I got help from Daniel and Jason to prepare the Discovery roof box and waterproof seat covers.
I watched Norwich City on TV lose a closely-fought game with Manchester United in the FA Cup.
We were awoken very early by the sound of Debbie running water and having a shower before 7.00am but it was after 8.00am before Diana would stir to get the morning drinks. Up slowly and then breakfast with the family and then out much later than usual with Sam who had waited very patiently and without any trouble. I made him do some water retrieves even though the cold northerly airflow was still with us, and he jumped fences and acquitted himself well.

Suffering from a head cold made walking Sam a chore but we managed it and then I stayed in to complete my financial summaries apart from an outing to the Little Paxton Little Chef for lunch. T
he political news today is of John Major's anger at the reported comments of his ex-Chancellor, Norman Lamont, who was scathing about the "Back to Basics" campaign.
I felt really miserable today and very sorry for myself as I had come down with a head cold and runny nose. I had little enthusiasm to take Sam out for his two walks but just about made it. He was quite good as I concentrated on obedience, jumping and quartering but then I left the retrieving alone for once.

After a windy night and cold windy start, two good walks with Sam making steady progress with his dummy-holding.
Daniel was having problems with his new car and I completed the purchase of 52 Monarch Road today before taking Diana to the cinema.
John Major re-launching the "Back to Basics" campaign today and Terry Venables confirmed as the new England football manager
It had been very windy again last night and it felt quite raw this morning with the air-stream coming from the north. My new computer tape-streamer had been working overnight and had soon backed up the entire hard disk. This was just as well as I received the new Vesa Local Bus display adaptor this morning and, when fitting it, appeared to stop the computer working even when it was subsequently removed.

Gale force winds in the evening as I struggled with purchases and updated my financial summaries and got Daniel’s help with computer issues. Better sessions with Sam today retrieving more gently
The strong winds had died down somewhat by this morning but picked up again in the evening and it sounded as if the windows were going to burst in! A day at home for me as I struggled with telephone calls to progress my computer equipment orders and purchase of Monarch Road.

This dull and windy day spent mostly working at home, relieved that Daniel had returned home safely with his car. A better day training Sam and working on my computer software.
An attack by a protester firing two shots at Prince Charles in Australia, fortunately, a starting pistol filled with blanks was marked by the dignity and bravery shown by Charles
A productive day; if a little dull again. The weather very windy overnight as I sat up to wait for Daniel to get home from his expedition. I was up until midnight and then checked for his car in the drive at 2.30am and it was still not there which was worrying. I heard his story at breakfast.

I decided to join Diana on a much milder day today and dry and even sunny at times for a shopping trip to Cambridge but Sam escaped over the wall as we shopped and a neighbour looked after him until we got back.
This evening to Peterborough with Diana to see a good if poignant British film called "The Remains of the Day" starring Anthony Hopkins
I decided to join Diana for a shopping trip to Cambridge and there bought a book on the Excel 4 application and also a new 250 MByte Tape Streamer for backing up our computer systems. Home via the A45 pet shop and The Little Chef for lunch. Before all this, I had another good session with Sam who undertook some water retrieves and responded well to jumping lessons over stiles and fences.
