Departing for our holiday in Norfolk on a bright and sunny day, with a cool breeze, towing The Little Lady as a giant luggage receptacle and then stopping off at Stanton to see my Mum and Dad, with whole the kids played nicely. A lunch stop at Banham Zoo and on to Wroxham in our Riverside self-catering Lodge at the Peninsular Leisure Centre and just time for a trip in Little Lady to Wroxham Broad
I was awake early on the morning of our departure for Norfolk. It was a chilly morning – bright, sunny but cool with a breeze. We went through our morning routines and then loaded The Little Lady up with supplies and coupled it to the Range Rover as a giant luggage receptacle. We took off at about 9 AM after locking and alarming the house. A steady journey to Stanton first of all, where we had an enjoyable 90 minutes with Mum and Dad. I gave mum and inscribed book for her forthcoming birthday, dad played with Daniella at the swings and I got a good video of them, and Debbie and Daniel play Scrabble with mum.

Working on ‘Thanks You’ leaflets after an early start and then later packing up and preparing for the start of our holiday tomorrow. At the Hillsborough enquiry, Chief superintendent David Duckenfield apologised for misleading statements blaming the club and fans and Lord Mackay, the Lord Chancellor, resigned from his extreme Presbyterian Church after the censure by the bigotry of his church elders for attending funerals of Catholic friends
I was awake early as Diana had left for the spare bedroom in the night and so I was the only one there to cancel the radio alarm when it sounded. I went down to a breakfast of French toast and then spent the morning working on the ‘Thank You Focus’. Percy and Pat came around later and typed into more copy and so it only needed laying out by lunchtime. After my lunch of crab salad, the layout was done later in the afternoon. Percy came by to collect the finished product and then Michael came later to get his delivery cards for when it the Focus is printed for delivery next week. This evening, I cleared my desk and packed away the things we need the start of our holiday tomorrow. I had to make many calls on outstanding business and had to get Daniel to prepare himself as well.

On a cooler and breezier day that of late I saw Daniel off to school for his GCSE computing case study and took Debbie for her last horse-riding session before our holiday. In between, I fielded history book queries and received my thanks from my Old Village friends and heard that Sally Guinee is joining our campaign. The domestic economic performance get worse as does the British/Soviet bloc problems but Soviet Union, the newly-constituted Congress reaffirmed the election of Mikhail Gorbachev as State President
A very different day – overcast and with the brisk breeze that made the weather seemed much cooler than of late – but the thermometer was still reading above 70°F! Daniel was off to school to do his GCSE computing case study. I stayed at home to prepare some more book shipments and I was also due to write the ‘Thank You Focus’ newsletter with Michael but he had another of his migraine attacks and could not come. I had phone calls from the Express journalist, who wanted a review copy of my book, the Little Paxton newsagent who wanted to stock my books for sale, and a host of other enquiries. I say, in jest, that I look forward to the starting of a branch library in Little Paxton – when I can then pass on those local informational queries! I heard from Sally Guinee who is interested in joining us, which will help Michael on the St Neots Town Council in due course.

I was preparing books for delivery all morning on a very warm and humid day and then driving to Huntingdon to deliver books and publicity during thunderstorms this afternoon before clearing up my office and doing some chores later. The Bank of England raising sterling interest rates by 1% to 14%, the 10th rise this year, as the Tories argue over economic policy. Police in Wolverhampton arrest 20 on drugs charges which prompts a near riot, the Anglo Soviet diplomatic crisis softens a little and Chinese civil unrest is a little calmer.
I went to bed far too late last night and then Diana awoke me early today as I had been taking too long to get down to breakfast lately. Diana went off to St Neots after the meal and I stayed home and prepared a whole lot of books for sale both individuals and to the bookshop’s who have agreed to stock them. This took all morning, but I also tended the plants and animals as it was Pete’s day off today. A very warm and humid day, but thunderstorms broke out this afternoon and it became quite overcast. Later this afternoon, I drove to Huntingdon and delivered a dozen books to WHSmith and just 3 to the bookshop in Godmanchester on the way. Review copies for a Huntington library contact and hunts post journalist and then delivery of all manner of promotional leaflets to contacts in the town.
