Grumpy after an early start on another icy cold and foggy day, but still enjoyed a large fried breakfast. Then it was time to erect the Christmas tree for the girls to decorate in the afternoon before I caught up on correspondence and chased sister Freda on her shop accounts and building work.
Tonight, I collected Sally and attended a District Group meeting at Derek Giles's house which went well enough. To bed after watching the film "Jamaica Inn" with Diana and Debbie on television as Della was in bed and Daniel out in Di's car with his friends.
I was a bit grumpy this morning at being woken up far too early and then spent the day feeling tired again. The trouble is that Diana's internal alarm clock wakes her at 6.00am regardless. The normal large fried breakfast this Sunday morning and then to go out and tend the doves etc. I also cut six inches off of the trunk of our Christmas Tree, unwrapped it and set it into the stand in our lounge for the girls to decorate this afternoon. The weather was icy cold and foggy again and I was pleased to be inside for the most part.

An unproductive but restful day at home, looking after Della and her visiting friend Naomi after being late up. Then feeding the peacock and doves in the freezing fog.
Daniel arrived dishevelled after bursting three tyres running over a roundabout in the fog driving home from Norwich! Gary came round but Angela was back in Cheshire and could only telephone later on.
Today was a really wasted day as far as progress was concerned. I was up very late after last night and then was even later hanging around. It was mid-morning before I got out to feed the starving doves and peacock and then, as I sat in the conservatory dreamingly relaxing and feeding the Koi, Hilary Knightley came round and I typed-up and printed out the Bottle Bank notices for her. I partly justified my lack of activity by being there to supervise Della who had her friend Naomi round to play, and she stayed for lunch.

Off to Norfolk in my thermal underwear on another very cold morning leaving early to arrive at the Broads Authority Planning Committee at Norfolk County Hall with my architect John Sennit. The disorganised bunch agreed to a site visit for our application.
A lightening visit found both Heronshaw and The Paxton Princess in a good situation and soon had the boat engines started and seemed to have survived the freezing weather all right with ice forming on the the dyke. Also dropped off a card for Jack and Dolly Edwards. I then dropped in to Redgrave where Freda and Alf had progressed roof repairs but they still had no management accounts for the business after eighteen months from taking over and after six months with their new accountants.
Home through some fog patches in the latter stages. John Major's negotiations in Maastricht showed that he can unite his own party over the deal which was his prime objective. Pity the result will be bad for us in Europe and that the stock market will sink down again as soon as the economic realities come home to roost.
I got Di to wake me very early this morning so that I could load up and leave soon after 7.00am for Norfolk. It was still very cold and, swallowing my pride, I donned my thermal underwear again as I find that my circulation hardly keeps my legs and feet warm these days. It was just getting light as I passed over Priory Hill and the red-tinged sky was quite interesting. Some time before the car was warm and I could remove my hat and gloves but then I settled down listening to the car radio.

Another cold and frosty morning with -8degC temperatures again driving across the games lawn with Bill Medlock and delivering ballast for my landscaping. Then to get ready to go to Kimbolton Church with Diana and Della to the Prep Carol Service which was also and thanksgiving service to the life of Hugh Hunter and was a moving and emotional event. Then taking Della in her school uniform to the Prep end-of-term party and then installing the Hayling View Christmas lights and making more family and political calls.
We took a step nearer Christmas today with preparations and events of different kinds. But first I had to start the day with some outside exercise on another cold and frosty morning. In fact, I think that it was again the coldest night with temperatures down to minus 8degC! I had asked Bill to come in today and I got the Range Rover round, hooked up the trailer and then proceeded to go and fill up the trailer twice with ballast and drive it across the games lawn. The lawn is frozen solid and would not be damaged very much.
