Working in my office on a quieter and milder day, with more wind and rain on the way, keeping an eye on Della, catching up with the gardener and working on my financial affairs; wary about the Bundesbank putting German interest rates up by half-per-cent which put pressure on Sterling and the Stock Exchange.
To the Parish Council Leisure and Amenities Committee this evening where we discussed the improvements for Paxton this year and next.
I spent most of the day, working in my office and also sitting with Della to make sure that she was all right after her plaster being removed yesterday. The gardener was here and I chatted with him for a while. I gave him a Christmas Box and agreed that today would be the last day he would work and only come back on Monday week. Much of my work was on my financial affairs and I kept a very close eye on the City as the news came through of the Bundesbank putting German interest rates up by half-per-cent which put pressure on Sterling and the Stock Exchange.

Having Della's Plaster removed in the afternoon after I had a mad dash to Birmingham Airport for a meeting with George McRobbie of Fountain Forestry. Without a change of government policy or economic climate, forestry will remain in recession with virtually no planting being done the NCC continue to designate SSSI's throughout the Highlands.
Della felt a bit strange and vulnerable after the plaster was removed but had her first bath in the evening with the dry and dead skin on her leg soothed with cream
Both Diana and I had a very poor night and we reckoned it was worry and anticipation over the prospect of Della losing her plaster today. I also had to wake early as I was due to drive to Birmingham Airport for a meeting with George McRobbie of Fountain Forestry. If that was not enough, I then was restless thinking about my life up to the age of eleven in Tottenham, London N17 and trying to remember all the names and facts which could form the basis of an autobiography. I was a wonder that I slept at all!

Seeing the gardener who had failed to cover our recent concreting from the frost and learning of Daniel’s car problems when he also distorted two of his alloy road wheels as well as ruining the tyres! He is still searching breakers yards for replacement wheels.
I spent this afternoon on my Heronshaw planning application and in trying to make out a case that overcomes the planning objections in time for the site visit in the new year.
Even more groggy this morning as I was late awake. Once ready, I spotted the gardener here and so went out to briefed him on a number of tasks that I wanted him to do in case he was short of things. It seems that he slipped up over not protecting the last section of concrete from the frost and we may have to re-cast that. Then I went out with Daniel to get some money, put the Range Rover through a car wash and then to try and get him a pair of new wheels. As well as damaging his tyres on the roundabout, he also distorted two of his alloy road wheels!

A busy day completing chores at The Hayling View and then off to Hinchingbrooke Hospital for a fitting of some surgical foot pads and then off with the family to see the ‘Aladdin’ Pantomime at the Cambridge Arts Theatre and back so that Diana could take the girls to the Brownie's Carol Service and party afterwards and I could attend the District Planning Committee.
There were some disturbing planning decisions which we could not successfully oppose. A small IRA bomb explosion at Clapham Junction led to all of the British Rail main line stations being closed down today and the capital was in chaos again
I had a busy day ahead of me this morning when I woke up and begun to get myself ready. There was also no sign of the gardener and so I went down to feed the doves before leaving. The first stop was my appointment for a fitting of some surgical foot pads at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The weather was much milder with all of the accumulation of frost melted but all surfaces were dirty and black with the salt and grime of recent days. I met another lady from the village on entering the hospital and she had been admitted with acute abdominal pains and was worried about not knowing what her problem was.
