Home with Daniel and Angela as Diana takes the girls out to family lunch at Chris’s house which was awkward, but we have the chance to discuss likely dates to take them over to France for a few days to experience the new EuroDisney theme park experience as I have agreed that we will go this year. After they had gone, the family returned, and it was time to watch some television.
Slow to sleep again last night, but then went off quite soundly and was allowed to lay in to make up for it. Down to breakfast in my dressing gown and then the long process of getting washed and dressed. It was a pity that, after morning drinks, Diana had to go off to Chris's house with the girls so that it was just me and the happy couple here for lunch again. I was not very happy at this, but poor Diana was only trying to keep everyone happy.

As Diana took Della to a show I spent the day at home with Daniel and Angela eating and watching TV films, , which went on quite late, but I stayed up with them as I was having trouble in getting to sleep anyway. Chatted to Jason and the others today about how to rig up my boat electrics to reduce electrical noise as much as possible.
Another poor night during which I had great trouble getting both comfortable and then asleep. Di extracted me from my pillows this morning and gave me a cup of watered-down tea through a straw. A long haul for me afterwards getting showered, shaved and dressed and then I walked into a tantrum of Della as she also got up late and then refused to take her vitamin tablet! Eventually calmed her down and got her talking to Di and they did what they had to do in order to get out. Angela and Daniel helped to serve the lunch that Diana had left and then I had a quiet afternoon reading and resting and watching some Rugby League football on the TV.

Uncomfortable day at home with Debbie keeping me company and comforting me as Diana is no ‘Florence Nightingale’! A restless experience trying to sleep being required to sit in an upright position to allow my nose to ‘drain’.
Breakfast on my own with the cooperation of the girls but falling out again with Diana although she was also off to have her own screening session at The Evelyn Hospital where she was having a "mammography" and "cervical smear" tests. I felt a little better, if tired, and tried some more time at my desk and computer before resting and reading in the lounge again.
My diet of fish led to me getting under my 13st 7lbs target that I have been aiming at for more than a year now! Daniel and Angela came home this evening and the whole family were very glad of this. Paddy Ashdown seems to be surviving the revelations about his having had an affair with a former secretary after a Tory burgled confidential documents from his solicitor and tried to sell them to the tabloid press. The latest polls show the Liberal Democrats up 2%!
In many ways, the night-time is the worst for wearing these internal nose splints and external bolster, as there are few distractions from the aches and discomfort. The more so for Diana's tiredness in the late evening where she just wants to get off to sleep herself. Certainly, given the pile of pillows dumped on my bed which is not turned down or otherwise prepared for me, I should conclude that she is no Florence Nightingale! This has always been a difference between us. When ill herself, she just takes to her bed and becomes quite offish, wanting the interest, reassurance and attentions of nobody so that any contact might be regarded as undue interference or criticism!

A further recovery day after an uncomfortable night but well enough to chase the girls about turning off lights and tidying their rooms. Catching up with my journal from notes, liaising with Dr Patel over a new Paxton surgery and receiving Percy who brought some political correspondence.
Otherwise resting as I still had splints in my nose. I watched a BBC TV documentary with Diana on the life and work of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II after cameras had followed her around for the last year.
I had trouble sleeping last night as sleeping whilst sitting upright in bed is very difficult and getting used to this without sleeping tablets would be a transition. I took some paracetamol for the discomfort and at least got some sleep. Showered and shaved and down to breakfast this morning and immediately getting on to the girls for leaving their lights on and bedrooms untidy. I made them clear up before they left for school. "While the cat's way, the mice will play!" Managed to write up this last few days' journal this morning, having kept notes of these recent experiences in a little book by my hospital bed. The gardener seems to be coming again for a longer time each day and the day is actually quite mild, with temperatures above 10degC.
