The morning waiting for Di to collect me as I was leaving hospital after nose operation, reading up on marine electronics and planning the rewiring of The Paxton Princess. The journey eventually persuading Di to pick up some fish and vegetables as a more suitable recovery diet after she had taken Della for her hospital check-up which had given the ‘’all-clear’ for normal activity. In an exciting TV Cup Football game, underdogs Southampton beat Manchester United by penalty kicks as the match was still level after extra time.
The sleeping pill had evidently worn off by 4.00am as I awoke with a start to find that my dressing had been seeping onto the pillow. Then a doze from then until my 6.30am breakfast call. The same meal as yesterday at 7.30am but this time I kept it down and was pleased with my progress. Mr Ellis came by again - this time around 8.00am - and announced that I could go home today but that I should come back on Friday week, the 14th February, to have the splints removed from inside my nose. I should not be disappointed but my nose would be "no good until then".

The day in The Evelyn Hospital recovering from nose operation under the supervision of Mr Ellis as the bleeding started off heavy but gradually lessened with attention; the accumulating blood in my stomach making me sick until later. Visits from Charles and Norma bringing grapes and then Di and the girls eating them later!
I was awake at 6.30am, the time I came to realise was the normal waking-up time, and offered tea but stuck to sips of water. Mr Ellis was around early at 7.15am, I think, and I suppose dropping in on his private patients on his way to his NHS hospital elsewhere. He had already said last night that he was pleased with the way that the operation went and was confirmed in that view this morning; conceding that some go better than others with the expectation of good results rather than only a marginal improvement. I quite like Mr Ellis. He has a direct, honest and informal manner, seems very action-oriented and not in the least evasive or overpowering.

After touring Paxton and St Neots delivering all of my letters and undertaking building society transactions, we drove to The Evelyn Hospital for my nose Operation. It was later in the day that I had my Pre Med and later still to have my operation after which the sickness and bleeding was difficult to cope with.
I had worked out that it had been forty years since I last had an operation - my appendectomy at the age of five - and so I approached today with particular trepidation. I could only have toast and coffee around 7.15am and then was allowed no food or drink for the rest of the day. Diana drove me to Cambridge, but first we went around St Neots and Paxton delivering all of my letters and things and then getting some money from the St Neots building societies. We arrived on time at the Evelyn Hospital, just on 11.00am, and I was given a registration form to fill in and went, with Diana, to the waiting room.

Another busy day at my home office clearing my desk after waking with a headache before playing with Diana and settling for a more slimming porridge breakfast. Working all day at my desk apart from stopping for lunch and to watch my favourite Antiques Roadshow on TV. A cold and dull day with gales and rain forecast soon
I awoke with a headache which I put down to too much close reading and computer screen work yesterday. At least I found Diana still in bed and so rolled over and played with her for a while, though my headache prevented me from enjoying it as much as her. A healthier Sunday breakfast than usual as I forwent my traditional fried meal to try harder to reduce my cholesterol level. In fact, I settled for porridge which was quite unusual for me!
