A good but cold morning and then a productive working day staining more of the cladding whilst Steven and Alan boarded another three bays until it came on to rain after lunch. I therefore completed the task of cutting and fixing the remaining ceiling panels upstairs so that we are now ready for the 'Artex'-work to be quoted for and executed.
John Major was still struggling with his own Conservative backbenchers over ratification of the Maastricht Treaty
I slept well again and was already awake on a cold morning when the alarm/radio came on automatically at 7.00am. Steven was up early and out preparing the ground on another dry morning. Breakfast of cereal and then out to resume the good work. I carried on sanding off and then staining more of the cladding whilst Steven and Alan boarded another three bays so that there was only two more left by close of work this evening. It had come on to rain as the weather changed for the worse after lunch. The others worked on outside, but I turned my attention to the inside and completed the task of cutting and fixing the remaining ceiling panels upstairs so that we are now ready for the 'Artex'-work to be quoted for and executed.

A fine and sunny day for my Harnser working party of Alan and Steve with Jack visiting and Gordon next door needing help after his car broke down. I took Gordon into Wroxham to get some food shopping before repairing to our favourite pub in Horning for a few drinks.
I showed Steve my new shotgun which, by coincidence, was the same make and model that he was given as a first gun when he was a farmer's son of 18!
We were blessed with a day of fine and sunny weather with which to resume work on the new Harnser boathouse. I had programmed my radio to switch itself on and call me but I was awake early anyway and so got myself up and dressed in good time for the arrival of my working colleagues. Alan was first but then Steve followed much later after the long journey from Sawtry. It took some time to sort out the tools, equipment and materials but then a start was made on the rear outside wall, and we got on well. I left Steve and Alan to work together in cutting and fixing the cladding whilst I sanded and stained it in preparation. I had a couple of visitors.

Home from London after disturbing incidents after visiting the "Tower Hill Pageant" and enjoying a meal in McDonalds before I set off to Norfolk to complete the bathroom skirting board in Harnser and then install the fan heater as the clocks go back.
The rain continued and the wind was getting steadily stronger as I sat up and typed up today's journal.
A very poor night as we found that, not only did the London traffic continue noisily until the early hours of the morning, but a couple of merry females came to our floor at 3.00am and were all drunken giggles in the hall which I found most distracting; as much for the opportunity going begging as for the disturbance caused! I lay in until what I thought was 8.00am to try to make up for my lost sleep but soon found out that the clocks had gone back and that we had a further hour. A nice breakfast in the hotel restaurant and then we packed up, checked out and then got the porter's help to load up before setting off. We went across London to Tower Hill and then visited the "Tower Hill Pageant" and thoroughly enjoyed it. This is the latest attraction, which is an underground ride, featuring the historical development of London since Roman times. It was fascinating to see how the northern bank of the River Thames was extended south by successive revetments with a back-fill of rubbish as contemporary artifacts of the times.

Shopping in the very crowded Hamley’s during this late season tourist rush and then taking a trip on the London Sightseeing Bus before a McDonalds meal and off by taxi to the cinema in Bloomsbury for some cinema entertainment.
Then the girls to bed and Di and I to a fine meal of roast duck in the hotel's French Restaurant
We took a long lay in despite the thundering of the London traffic beneath our hotel window. The girls left us in peace and so I successfully made a fuss of Diana before we got up to have another nice breakfast. Off shopping to arrive at Hamley’s in mid-morning. We found both this shop and the hotel very crowded today - believing that the sharp depreciation of Sterling had led to this late season tourist rush. The girls enjoyed Hamley’s but it was too crowded for me and I took refuge in the restaurant whilst they continued to have a look round. To rest and recuperate, we went for a trip on the London Sightseeing Bus and, although its slow pace in the congested traffic was found to be 'boring' by the children, Diana and I enjoyed it.
