The day cutting and fitting Masterboard at Horning as Daniel arrived at lunchtime but did not return as invited for dinner later. Did not fancy doing very much after this and so just rested and read my book on how to train pointer-retrievers which I found very interesting
The night was cold and the morning still very chilly indeed when I got up and made my breakfast of toast and cereal. My thoughts turned to the protection of both properties and The Paxton Princess from forthcoming frost. It was around 8.30am before I got out and resumed working on the masterboard. I took the easier line and fitted the strips to the open boat-house to start with and then moved into the store-room and managed to put up two sections of walling from the partial boards left. I concluded that another five boards were needed to finish this and the ceiling upstairs and tried to contact Jewsons accordingly but Richard Fisher being on holiday for the week, I decided to use what materials I have and leave the question of further orders until then.

Off early to Horning via a John Buckle's East of England Shooting Ground for a lesson before working for what remained of the afternoon, fitting Masterboard to the Harnser upstairs ceiling and boat-house roof.
After 5.00pm, I stopped and used the last two hours to do some sighting practice up-river where I took my gun in The Jolly.
I was awake early again this morning and was through the en-suite bathroom for my shave and shower before Diana was ready to use it at 6.40am. Some time with the girls before and after breakfast and then, once I had packed for Norfolk, I dropped them off at the school bus stop and started on my way. The journey was much delayed by traffic until I ground to a halt on the way to Newmarket, having been diverted off of the A45 by what appears to have been a serious road accident. Fortunately, my cellular car telephone got me out of trouble and I arrived as expected at John Buckle's East of England Shooting Ground for my lesson. I was examined for technique and given a number of tips to enable me to shoot more consistently but I still have lots to learn.

Off to Cambridge to have morning coffee with Charles and Norma at Eaden Lilley’s, some shopping and then lunch at The Arts Theatre before getting peat, compost and other things that the gardener had requested. Home in Paxton cooking our goose.
We had a nice sunny day but only after a chilly and frosty start. Having got to bed very early with Diana, I was up equally so and took my shower and got dressed before her. This gave me about two hours in the office before it was time to leave for a trip to Cambridge and even then Diana was waiting impatiently in the car for me. A lot of traffic today for no apparent reason that I could see and this both delayed our arrival and later our departure as well. Around 10.15am before we arrived at Eaden Lilley's to meet Norma and Charles but we gave then another drink and had a good time to chat, them being keener than usual to hear of my shooting exploits in Scotland and of progress on the Harnser boat-house.

Recovering at home in Paxton, catching up with the gardener and the girls, getting the pool back under control and catching up my journal, investments and with the girls’ homework
I slept well enough last night, though Diana had to leave me early on for the spare room as she said my snoring was too much to bare! I always seem to breath heavily after getting very tired. I weighed myself and discovered that I had gained half a stone in Scotland which was bad news. Some time with the gardener, as he had hardly seen me for a couple of months. On good terms with Diana this morning and then, as she went shopping in St Neots, I also slipped away and bought her twenty red roses to complete her new rose-bowl present. I had typed a note to Steven Bloom about helping me finish off the work at Horning and had to post this as well.
