A rest and recovery day for the most part finally tuning in to the House of Commons statement by Michael Heseltine on the pits crisis. Tea and then my journal before joining Diana for a trip to Kimbolton Prep for Daniella's parents' evening
On going to bed last night, I was in some discomfort and agony with an acute stomach upset after eating all of those chocolates and made several urgent trips to the toilet before Diana left for the peace of the spare room and I eventually managed to settle down and get off to sleep. I was very weak this morning and so stayed in bed and read my books on gun-dogs until lunchtime when I had recovered enough to get up, washed and dressed for a light lunch. I rested again this afternoon tuning in to the House of Commons statement by Michael Heseltine on the pits crisis.

Tackling my Hayling View chores and then a trip down Memory Lane, visiting Di’s old school St Francis in Letchworth, on its Open Day; touring Letchworth where our old employers I.C.L. were selling off their last presence. On to Lower Stondon to see our first house that we rented and then to Shefford to see the first that we owned.
To Bedford for a film listening to the news of John Major’s struggles with his party
Diana had trouble getting to sleep last night and went off to the spare room and so I was alone when I woke up this morning having had a long lay in. I made myself a mug of tea and came back to bed with my Pointer Retriever Gun-Dog Book and it was some time before the girls descended on me. Breakfast together and then out to do the Hayling View chores, spending some time on the swimming pool before deciding that there was too much algae in there to allow me to put the cover on and lay the pool up for the season. The three neighbourhood boys were in position early and fishing and, although they found the morning rather too cold for comfort, still reported catching a chub and roach when I asked them how they got on. Lunch of roast chicken and then I responded to an invitation of Diana to accompany her on a nostalgic visit to her old school, St Francis in Letchworth, on its Open Day.

A pleasant surprise from Debbie of breakfast in bed for Diana's 45th Birthday and then a quiet and relaxing day, just hosting lunch at to The Bridge Hotel in St Neots and lighting the fire in the lounge and resting and reading in front of it.
A session with Debbie showing her how to do word processing on my computer as Diana went to a Brownies Swimming Gala in St Neots.
It was a very pleasant surprise to have a lay in this morning and then to be served a cup of coffee. Debbie had brought up Diana's breakfast as a treat on her birthday and so I was given the same privilege too. She had set her alarm and got herself up, dressed and hair done to save Diana the trouble for once. A nice time in bed with Diana despite her time of the month and then up slowly having achieved nothing by the time we had a morning coffee together. Then a few chores; the doves and fish to be fed, the pool filter to back-flush and little time for anything else before we had to go into St Neots. Three little boys from the neighbourhood were down on our riverside garden by permission prospecting the river for the best place to fish tomorrow and I chatted to them for a while.

After the coldest October night for nine years, I slowly continued fitting the Masterboard panels, secured the property against the weather and then drove home from Norfolk doing a little shopping and dealing with a puncture on the way.
John Major is in all sorts of political trouble, and I do not think that he is long for this political world
I was cold late yesterday and it was some time before I managed to warm up in my sleeping bag. The news this morning told me that it was the coldest October night for nine years and I think that we are experiencing another weather shift as it feels like November and winter already with this icy cold wind from the Arctic. Kept moving this morning and wrapped up well to go out in the cold after breakfast. My task was to continue cutting and fitting masterboard panels for the ceiling upstairs and this was hard going. In fact, I worked out that they took an hour each such that I could only do two a session or four in a morning. As I was reckoning on packing up at lunchtime, that was exactly how many I managed to get done which still left quite a few for next week.
