Albert Reynold and John Major sign a joint British/Irish accord on the future of Ulster

After walking Sam and updating Chris next door on the fate of her cat, I let Diana go alone to Debbie's senior school carol service and stayed behind to finish getting things ready for my trip to Norfolk with the girls and then we had lunch together before setting off to Norfolk where we settled into Harnser for the night.

News today of a final settlement in the GATT talks and also of a joint British/Irish accord on the future of Ulster.

The morning quite cold and bright but good conditions to take Sam for a walk. I saved him the water but gave him a few retrieves and schooled him in obedience again. It was so pleasing to see him all keen and bouncy again after recovering from his tummy problems. A long chat to Bill, putting him right again on a number of things to do whilst I am away. He was asking whether he was needed next week, and I had to point out the large range of tasks still to be done.

Chris next door came round to see Diana today about the disappearance of her tabby cat and Di had to tell her what happened. She did not seem too upset and certainly did not blame Di but more so herself for leaving the cat out all day in the cold. I let Diana go alone to Debbie's senior school carol service and stayed behind to finish getting things ready for my trip to Norfolk with the girls. It was a rush to order some computer parts and to file some papers so that I was just about ready with the car packed when they all got back.

Off to the Croxton Happy Eater for lunch and we met Daniel's old friend Stephen Hicks on the way out. He was in a long leg plaster having suffered a multiple fracture whilst roller skating, and Diana gave him a lift to St Neots for a hair-cut as he could not drive. The journey to Norfolk went well and we were in Wroxham by 3.15pm for a bit of food shopping and then in Ropes Hill Dyke a quarter of an hour later. I had time to run the dog before dark whilst Della unpacked the bags and made the beds and Debbie put the food away and made the tea.

Telephone calls home and to the vet to arrange an inoculation for Sam and then we settled to our evening’s activities. The girls were quite good; playing monopoly and then cards and watching TV. I repaired and sealed the bath-mixer tap before updating my journal and taking a bath before bed. I did not have much success with receiving faxes and I also had a set-back with my new computer when Daniel told me that it had arrived at Tensor and would not power up properly when they tried to check it out.
