We left Rocklands Staithe early after a reasonable night’s sleep and hot refreshing showers for me, Di and Daniel, pulled back the sliding roof on a sunny morning for breakfast and then cruised back across Rockland Broad, right down the Yare and along the long and tortuous river Chet to Loddon. After lunch at the converted River Mill, we went back down the river Chet and turned right downstream to moor at Reedham in a fast flowing tide. We took old courtesy bus to Pettit’s feather craft site which had all sorts of animal and other amusements to the children and then had a walk around the village but found it was dominated by retired and holiday residents. The news from a neighbour’s radio, was all about the test match being drawn on the rail strikes being due for the next day. Sir Laurence Olivier has died
We were awake quite early and slept reasonably well. Our morning routine is now forming and includes a hot shower for Di me and Daniel, which is refreshing. Rocklands Staithe proved to be a nice place to moor, but we did not stay long this morning, choosing to leave early. We had to pull back the sliding roof on a sunny morning to make a nice circumstance for breakfast. A longish cruise back across Rockland Broad, right down the Yare and along the long and tortuous river Chet to Loddon. We had not been here before, always having been short of time, but we moored and did our shopping in the village after morning coffee.

We had a a good enough first night aboard The Lady, with showers for Diana and I this morning before a walk to the city centre of Norwich and some shopping. Some films for our cameras, then lunch and a trip to see an Historical Craft Museum before setting off downstream for diesel and water and registering our boats after a Broads Authority Rangers reminded us! We moored at Rocklands Dyke, and went to for a walk until an overnight shower tested our boats windscreens and covers
I slept well enough after I had adjusted my bedclothes to avoid getting too warm. Diana had a shower this morning and I joined her having got it working for both of us. Everything on a boat forms the better for being use. Once we had breakfast and got the children washed and dressed, we took a walk into the city centre of Norwich and did some shopping. I took Dan and I went off with the girls we met up at a familiar lunch place at midday. I had been around the electrical shops and Daniel looking at the latest video and audio kit but buying done.

The whole family up early packed and out by 8:30 AM to leave for Norfolk, popping in to my mum and dad for coffee at 10 AM to find mum with her new mobility chair but dad still in pain waiting for his radiotherapy to start next Tuesday. We reach Brundall just after midday, launched Daniel’s boat in the dinghy, stored our car and trailer and then boarded The Lady and set off for Norwich for a big welcome at the Norwich yacht station. US President Bush has visited Warsaw, the row continues over Hong Kong, British hostage mother Mrs McCarthy dies of cancer without seeing her son and the government besieged by strikes
I was late getting to bed last night and even later getting to sleep. Even though we were awoken quite early this morning to get ready for our trip to Norfolk. We managed to get up, dressed etc. and complete our packing to be ready to leave by 8.30 a.m. I telephoned my dad and arrange for us to pop in for coffee at 10 a.m., which we then did. Mum has a new mobility chair now, which can take around her mobile home, estate and Shepherds Grove Park. Dad’s face is still painful and he is scheduled to start his radiotherapy on Tuesday next. They both appreciated a visit and meeting with the children and the kids in turn appreciated the journey’s break. Onwards to reach Brundall by 12.15 p.m. and we then launched Daniel’s boat and the dinghy.

Opening the Village Hall fête - some chores for Diana and I this morning before loading up the car and setting up our stall on the playing field. I was called upon to make a speech as the Vice Chairman and Trustee of the Village Hall and Local Councillor and I declared the fête open and Diana and I gave out the prices on what was a successful day with a good attendance. Then the job of collecting the stalls on a trailer as we calculated that both the sale of my books and the pony rides and delivered £40 each for the fund. South African Nelson Mandela has been allowed to meet Pres PW Botha, the three unions and the rail dispute our meeting together on Monday morning to plan their joint campaign and Tory Health Minister Kenneth Clarke is lashing out at the British Medical Association over their opposition to the health service review and new doctors contracts and the Tories are well behind again in the opinion polls and getting rattled at developments.
I slept in a bit today and then found that the family had already eaten their breakfast. I fed the fish, watered the plants and then got all of my books and other materials ready for loading into the Range Rover. Once Di had taken Debbie to her horse riding and then Della swimming in the Range Rover, I had to use the Ford Escort to St Neots to do some chores. Once we were both home, we had coffee and then loaded everything else up for the Village Hall fête on the playing field. We set up our stall and then had beef burgers and hot dogs from the Scouts barbecue stall. I was called upon to make a speech as the Vice Chairman and Trustee of the Village Hall and Local Councillor and I declared the fête open just after 2pm.
