Apart from hosting a visit with Nigel, I spent the whole day, evening and much of the night completing my editing of my Little Paxton History book as Daniel was at school this morning and Debbie was galloping on her ride on Sundance. My next project will be the County Council Election campaign.
Debbie was galloping on Sundance during her ride today, which was worrying, as I worked all day and most of the night finishing off my editing of my Little Paxton History book until 3.30am in the morning. I had a late bedtime yesterday, but I made a reasonable start to the day and then stayed in all day and worked on my history project. Daniel went to school this morning and Debbie was dropped off at the riding school as Diana went shopping. Debbie had a good day and was galloping on Sundance and did not stop him as she was enjoying the sensation!

Groggily awake after a late night, I was pleased to see my Koi carp were very active and feeding constantly in the conservatory pond as I read urgent aspects of the post and newspapers before making some phone calls. Freda had spoken to my mother to keep her spirits up after dad’s operation. I spoke to the papers about water quality and the Ramply street name dispute. An afternoon visit to the Bunnage family after hearing news of the fire that had scorched and badly soiled one of their bedrooms. Large sums of money were raised for the Comic Relief charity with the old and homeless people of the UK also being catered for which is a disgraceful requirement.
I had a late night and a groggy start to the day as a result. There was no lack of activity from my Koi carp; the water temperature was above 70°F and they were feeding constantly as a result. The Hariwake Ohgon seems to be steadily recovering. This morning, I read the urgent aspects of the post and then the paper before making a few phone calls. I spoke to my mother Grace, who had been successfully briefed by Freda last night. I had a longish chat with her to keep her spirits up as this is a worrying time. I also spoke to Celia Chignell of the Express on the subject of water quality and the District Council’s change of mind over the Ramply Lane. I then settled down to work on my last history chapter and, by lunch, I had finished the section on the Post-War Development of the Village. I then enjoyed a late lunch that Di made for me after returning from her shopping trip to Bedford. This afternoon, I went to Little Paxton Nurseries to see the Bunnage family as I had heard on the radio that they had a fire this morning.

A windy day after a late night such that I struggled to resume my history writing before then embarking on a series of journeys, the most important of which was to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, to see dad and talk his surgeon about the cancer that has affected his ear. After collecting Debbie from a successful horse-riding lesson, and Daniel from his Buckden voluntary school service, I contributed significantly to the Little Paxton Village Hall Committee meeting. Former Prime Minister Ted Heath criticises the lack of government funding for the Channel Tunnel and the 11th rise in prescription charges since Thatcher took over in 1979 has been widely criticised
A windy day today which was quite unsettling. I had a very late night and was struggling this morning to get going but I fed the fish and then did some more work on my Post-War Development section. I also spoke to David Potter, the HDC Planning Director and then typed up a letter to ask formally for permission to use certain of their information in my book. After lunch, I had to set off on a range of journeys. Firstly, I had to take Di to Bedford so that the Rolls-Royce could be collected and then I rushed over to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, to see Dad and talked his surgeon about the cancer that has affected his ear. They have removed the skin from the inside of his right ear and the cartilage in the middle there have also taken a strip from under his arm and will place it on his ear tomorrow in another simple operation. The tissue removed from his ear has been sent for biopsy and it be a week before they can confirm the cancer type. It seems that this one is a species that can start secondary growth elsewhere and so we will have to keep our fingers crossed.

Whilst Di makes her trip to Colchester to see her sister, I had breakfast and then examined my conservatory fish, who are progressing well before settling down to work on my last book chapter. I ended up making my own salad lunch and then watching England in a World Cup qualifying football match live on the TV before resuming my writing. Later, attending the committee meeting of the St Neots Museum and then meeting Desmond Merrill of Great Gransden to discuss his council candidacy. Previous history of poor train safety has been revealed about Purley in 1985 and the new the tunnel route for the approach line to the Channel Tunnel has been confirmed.
I was awake a little early this morning and Di had gone down to get ready for a trip to Colchester. I had breakfast and then fed the fish. The Ohgon is still recovering and they are all progressing well. I spent this morning working on my last chapter – The Post-War Development of Little Paxton. I worked on the Wartime Fires of Little Paxton and finish that section by lunchtime. I prepared my salad and took it through to the conservatory and ate it there. Then, this afternoon, I found out that England were involved in a World Cup qualifying football match live on the TV and so I watched that this afternoon. I resumed work later and made good progress on the section describing the Post-War Development.
