A full day sweeping leaves in the morning and mowing lawns in the afternoon with generous breaks when I rested and had calls from the local newspapers and also a visit from the new owner of The Lady, Mrs Diana Hoult, the German wife of a British serviceman, who has renamed it ‘The Pied Piper’ and used the boat well this summer. As Vice-Chairman, I had to chair the Little Paxton Village Hall Management Committee Meeting this evening in the unexpected absence of the Chairman.
It was quite cold again last night, and I avoided going out too early this morning. Di woke me with my morning tea after a little lay in and then I read the paper with the girls as I had breakfast and opened the mail. It was after 9.00am before I got going and went out to do some sweeping around the back garden and swimming pool. In fact, it was so chilly that I needed to wear gloves and a big sweater to keep warm. I spent the entire morning afterwards clearing leaves from all of the front and back gardens and then the entire afternoon mowing all of the lawns. It is good weather for the grass at the moment and it is greening up and growing quite nicely having been somewhat damaged by the drought and the "leather-jackets" that burrow underneath and attack the roots.

An altercation with Diana refusing contact on a cold night before a colder and poor day full of interruptions until I could get on later with account reconciliations and writing. Debbie saw the doctor today with poor hearing lately but had wax build up after swimming.
Percy and some other colleagues were apparently successful canvassing for LibDem members and helpers in Little Paxton tonight. Former Prime Minister, Ted Heath, seems to have secured the release of the elderly and infirm British hostages from Iraq. British trade figures are better for the month but still in deficit and sterling is losing ground
I was cold when I went to bed last night and then, trying to get closer to Diana, I had a kicking and elbowing match which ended up with Di storming off to the spare bedroom which was a bit unfortunate. I was woken up this morning by her radio and have been aware of having a stiff back from my days in London. Either it was the length of time in the driving seat or the poor beds at The Holiday Inn that caused it. After breakfast, I tried to get down to some office work and was struggling to achieve such things all day. I had to do bitty things such as reconciling my credit card account and filing and was continually interrupted by telephone calls from constituents and all else who never seem to want to put pen to paper but will just telephone me instead. I must have had a dozen calls and each of them led to action of some sort.

After a poor and expensive stay at The Swiss Cottage Holiday Inn, a trip to the London Water Centre on a much cooler day and then home to arrive after Daniel had left.
Ted Heath got to Iraq in the end and met Hussein and is hopeful of bringing out all 52 elderly and infirm Britons who are held there.
We were rudely awaken this morning at 7.30am by a hotel staff member knocking loudly on our door by mistake and this was annoying as it had taken so long for us to get to sleep in the first place. As we went down to breakfast, I complained to the front desk but whether they found the culprit or not I do not know. Our breakfast was passable. We were away from smokers this time, but the coffee was cold, and we had to get it replaced. We packed up afterwards and checked out of the hotel and I was shocked to find that our bill came to over £700! Diana had not checked on the room rates or anything and all of the meals were extra with not even breakfast included. It would not be so bad but the standards were not particularly good either. I shall not want to go back there again.

An uncomfortable night in our London Hotel and then some clothes shopping for me, a portable chess computer for Debbie in Hamley’s and then a trip for Della to London Zoo
It was an uneasy and restless night for me. The bedclothes were too small and the bed itself pretty uncomfortable anyway. The room was too hot until the air-conditioning was put on and then it was too noisy, and we dare not leave the window to the common balcony open for security reasons. I was awake by 6.00am and poor Della was unwell with a cold but she was very brave about it. We all went down together for a nice, cooked breakfast, but our enjoyment was slightly marred by being sat next to a cigarette smoker. Then we set off by bus to do some shopping and started at the 'High and Mighty" shop in Princes Street.
