Raising the site area well above flood level with dredgings as the building work proceeds and the stud shell and principal posts go on up as large consignment of 4"x2" stud arrived this morning.
Organising electrics with Ray Lond-Caulk, plumbing with David Birchinall and booking roofers and drainage facilities with Terry Beddows of T.W. Page.
I was awake early after being quite late to bed and, after getting dressed and shaved, was out around 7.00am to resume the task of skimming off the gravel from the drive before the builders arrived. The object of the exercise was to provide a central turning space for Arthur Edmunds to fill in whilst building up the other areas of the plot rear. The reason for this was to get everything well above flood level whilst not highlighting the fact that we are building the new boatshed from a very high base. The non-arrival of the building control inspector before the walls have gone up exacerbated my nervousness. The large consignment of 4"x2" stud arrived this morning which meant that the carpenter could get on and form the rest of the walls for the enclosed area of the accommodation, but we had to unload it first!

Playing with the girls waiting for the Roy’s coffee shop to open and then chairing a Ropes Hill Dyke Residents Meeting at Romany and agreeing a comprehensive plan for upgrading and maintaining the access road.
A nice Sunday lunch together at the Wroxham Bridge Restaurant after which I was up late bathing, eating and planning. The showers were slight today after the heavy rain of Friday
After yesterday's rain, we were hoping for a dry and sunny day but, as we looked out from the boat, it was dull with the ground wet from overnight rain. As I made my way up to Heronshaw early to get washed and shaved, I also saw that the tarpaulin had been moved and sections distorted by yesterday's rain as well. Once the rest of the family were up we had breakfast in the Heronshaw lounge before I decided to get them out in the car and off to Wroxham to do some shopping as the Horning Playing Field would be too wet for the game of tennis with Debbie and bike riding with Della.

After a lay in on another rainy day, welcoming the family for a visit to me and taking them to Norwich for a shopping trip to buy Della a large set of colouring pencils for her to develop her art skills and Debbie a tennis racquet.
They spent more time in the library, before lunch in Oliver’s and home to see Mr and Mrs Trevor Grey next door to discuss their concerns re the height of my new building. We went onto the Paxton Princess for the night and to bed quite early
For once, I had a lay in this morning. I first awoke at 6.30am and, realising that I did not have to get up today, dozed until 7.00am. Thinking to do so again until 7.30am, I closed my eyes and, when I opened them again, it was 9.00am! Then it was a mad rush to get ready before Diana and the girls arrived to stay. Bathed, breakfasted and then, whilst I was doing the washing up, they arrived. We spent the morning and some of the afternoon in the Norwich rain - the girls at the library - and Diana and I shopping.

Calling and speaking to Della on her on her 8th birthday, thinking she might never have reached this age after her accident.
With no Steve or Gilly on a rainy day today, helping Dave to cut and erect six large support posts to insert between the back wall between the studwork. Catching up with my journal in the evening.
Both the Second Test Match and Wimbledon were rained off today with no play at either
Della was eight today for which we are grateful for, considering her car accident, she may never have reached this age at all. I managed to call and speak to her this evening whilst the family were packing ready to come up and see me this weekend. With no Steve or Gilly today, I was the only help for the main carpenter, Dave, and it was forecast to rain later and rain it certainly did. We were expecting visits from both the roofers and the building inspector but neither appeared. Nor did the urgent delivery of stud from Jewsons. Even so, the two of us made progress, working through the rain to cut and erect six of the large support posts along the back wall and also to do as much of the stud-work as we had materials for.
