A late start after a poor night, but then Di took the girls shopping, as I worked on building society accounts and things with a lit fire in my office each side of a Radio Chiltern interview. Then to St Neots for chores and back for some evening television with news of the Gulf deadline being only a week away with our nation in war fever.
It was a poor night for Diana and me. I think that we had let the room get too warm on a day that was not quite so cold as of late. This morning, I missed Daniel at the breakfast table as he had already gone to work by the time I came down. This was a pity as I heard that he was now suffering from the cold and was not very well. The last day at home for Della before going back to school the next day and that will be a relief for Di and I. Diana had taken Debbie shopping this morning and I tried to keep Della happy, but it was quite a job. I lit the fire and attended to my chores and then spent most of the day in my office, working on administration. It was my building society affairs that was taking time and also some more correspondence and pressing political matters.

On a day that started sunny but rained later, I would have liked to visit the Boat Show, but Di and Dan were not interested, and so I slept in, wrote, and attended to correspondence. My cough resumed as I took down Christmas decorations on 12th night. The news is of the Gulf and attitudes are hardening again with "negotiation" being a dirty word.
I stayed up a bit late last night watching the Vietnam film, "Apocalypse Now", but did not manage to get straight off to sleep afterwards. Still, Diana let me sleep in this morning and I was reasonably rested when coming down to breakfast at 9.00am. I tried to persuade Daniel or Diana to come to London with me to visit the International Boat Show but neither of them either wanted to go or to stay at home with Della and so the plan came to nothing. I spent my day inside for the most part, watching TV but later in my office updating my journal and attending to all matter of political correspondence etc.

Taking to family to ‘Rollers’ in Milton Keynes Skating and then slumping onto the settee all afternoon to recover from this and my cold with just a little time working in my office.
The IRA managed to destroy quite a few prestige stores in Northern Ireland overnight and very high winds and storms were lashing the western half of the British Isles. An MOD laptop with Gulf activities was stolen from an official’s car.
I was not very bright again today and my cough had returned to a certain extent. Additionally, Diana had woken me up unnecessarily early and I was not very pleased. Daniel had the same beef. I was up and about soon after, however, and then decided to go ahead with my plan to take the girls skating to Rollers. Both of the girls promised to be on their very best behaviour and Debbie brought along Emma. We enjoyed the trip and Diana came to watch all of our skating skills increase accordingly. Refreshments and lunch there and then I slumped into the settee this afternoon to watch some sport and try to recover.

With my cough returning and recovery set back, I decided to go out with Diana and the girls to Bedford to look at the sales and the Peacocks auction lots before returning home to meet up with my two HDC colleagues. Debbie was horse-riding and Daniel was pleased to receive another long and passionate letter from Angela.
Winds and storms are forecast in the North for this weekend, but there have been record rainstorms and flooding in Australia as the world weather patterns show their recent more volatile face.
I did not feel so well this morning and wondered if my recovery had been reversed. I was late to get going, but then decided to go out with Diana and the girls to Bedford to do some window shopping in the Sales. I took along some HDC papers for reading and absorbed them over coffee and lunch. Between times, I also walked up to Peacocks Auction rooms and looked at the lots for tomorrow. There was some good gardening and leisure things, but I could not count on finding time tomorrow to go and bid. I also dropped into the cellular telephone dealer and sought their advice over a spare battery and aerial for my transportable telephone while I was there.
