A poor day with Della struggling with her school interview and exams and then being embarrassed at Daniel’s overdue library book and finally making an abortive trip to the cinema in Peterborough
It was a poor day today. It was the day for Della to go to Kimbolton Prep Department and to have tests and an interview for school admission. I was still groggy from last night, having ended up with a headache after finding the London visit quite a strain. I staggered down to breakfast with the others and then, after Debbie was off to school, Diana and I got Della ready and drove off to Kimbolton. A very cold morning and the ground frost refused to clear in the shade almost all day. We got her there all right but she had a fit of shyness and would not put an electronic pocket game down which did not create a very good impression!

After progressing my FOCUS work and tackling Daniel and Della over their plans, I went by train to visit The London Boat Show with my friend Steven and decided to order an auto-pilot and got my navigation software updated before we went by taxi to Leicester Square afterwards and had a nice Chinese meal at the Fu Kung Restaurant. The boat manufacturers are finding the going a bit rough at the moment with the sky-high interest rates and threat of a Gulf War
I was awake at a time much closer to our former routine this morning and was therefore able to see everyone out of the house. It is Daniel's last day at work in Cambridge before going back to university this weekend and I tackled him about his arrangements, wondering if he were able to come to the boat show with me or help finish off the garage foundation but he claimed that he was too busy. I finally arranged to visit Earls Court with my friend Steven this afternoon. Della was being difficult about doing any number work for her Kimbolton test and I have left it in order not to create too much tension to spoil her Saturday visit. This morning I typed up and printed out numerous letters and envelopes for FOCUS colleagues to allow them to adopt the same approach as me in canvassing for advertisers. There was only then time for my outside chores before an early lunch.

A day at home on correspondence, Council and FOCUS work with the weather not so bad today with the rain and wind moderating between the succession of depressions. Statisticians confirm that last year was officially the hottest since records began in the UK.
The financial markets are falling in expectation of a war as Peres de Cueliar, the United Nations Secretary-General stands little chance trying to help Iraq and the USA find a peaceful and diplomatic end to the Gulf conflict
It was another day of administration and political work for me as Diana went out to do the shopping. I was up reasonably on time and joined the others at the breakfast table before seeing Daniel off to work. Fed the fish whilst waiting for the post to come and it was a pity that there was another letter for Daniel from Angela which came too late for him to see before he left for the day. A pile of council papers arrived for me to study and this took me most of the morning. I went through last night's St Neots Town Council papers and then next Tuesday's Environmental Services Committee papers, making notes for discussion with Sally. Just had time to type a couple of letters before lunch.

Progressing Financial Summaries and supporting local colleagues with Council Affairs after a slow start on a very wet and stormy day which was quiet with Daniel off to work and the girls at school. A painful non-ending visit from Chrisula was frustrating.
The USA and Iraqi delegations met for three sessions of two hours each in negotiations without success. The death tolls increased in the aftermath of the rail crash.
I was slow again to get going this morning and had to come down to breakfast in my dressing gown. Daniel was off to work even though he was not any better than yesterday, but he did wait long enough to collect his letter from Angela from the morning mail. Both Della and Debbie were at school today which made the house very quiet and gave Diana a real chance to get on with some housework. The weather started and ended the day very wet and the wind rose to gale force again as the day went on. I went out to do my chores and then spent the day in my office reconciling my Abbey National cheque account and updating my Income and Investment Summary.
