Apart from an unremarkable evening Parish Council meeting, I was working all day at home on my accounts, building society investments and other administration. Daniel was away at his Cambridge job again, bringing back new disk-checking software.
It was raining hard again this evening and many of the roads were under water for a while. A last-minute US proposal for talks with Iraq does not seem as if it will lead to anything.
I was slow to get up again today, but Daniel was away early again to his Cambridge software job. It was back to work again for me this morning as I went through my outstanding accounts and organised my Building Society investments. They are always changing the types of accounts and interest rates so that the investor is easily left on a lower rate. I made up my latest action list and then cleared a few administrative items off of it. Daniel came back this evening with some new disk-checking software and thought that he had corrupted my hard disk (with all of my programmes and data on it) but managed to restore it without loss.

After seeing off Daniel for his successful work experience with Systems Support of Cambridge and collecting Della after her horse-riding exam, we took the girls for a Centre Parks Visit to meet up with the Bloom family who had paid for us as guests.
As the Gulf conflict deadlines approach, . USA intelligence agrees with the Iraqi claims that they have over half of a million troops and more than 4000 tanks dug in on the front line as the UK Foreign Minister, Douglas Hurd, frantically lobbied other European governments by 'phone against their idea of getting some talks going.
Today was a bit milder and quieter than of late after strong winds and rain.
Diana and I actually managed to sleep in the same room last night and then Diana was first up this morning to get the morning drinks. She also made sure that Daniel was up and about as he was going in to get some work experience at Systems Support at Cambridge. Breakfast together (apart from Daniel who had already left with impressive enthusiasm) and then I took Della into my office and helped her with some sums whilst I started to sort out my "Domesday Book" edition. She did quite well but is having some difficulty with "carrying" on addition. Then Diana took her off to a horse-riding session and later, when she had returned, I was pleased to hear that she had passed the "Grade 1 horse-riding test of proficiency" as it would give her confidence for forthcoming Kimbolton Entrance Test later this month.

Our New Year's Day visit to Di’s family at Old Warden Abbey on wet and windy day after a frosty start and then a rendezvous with out children after Di and I had been having problems in our own company.
News from Iraq is of lots of posturing and not much negotiation or discussion taking place and a bloody war seems to be more and more inevitable.
Diana had stormed off during the night again, claiming that I had been 'deliberately wafting cold air into the bed to upset her" and so we slept apart again as a great social start to the new year. We had stayed up until after mid-night which had probably made us a bit ratty and I eventually went to sleep. Got myself up this morning and had got showered, shaved and dressed in time for breakfast. After this, I went to the lounge and sorted out the mess after last night and then settled down to mounting my personal press cuttings as the last task to get myself up to date. Before long it was time to get ready to rendezvous with the family over at Old Warden Abbey where the Fulton wing of Diana's family always hire this historic building and host a family get-together.
