Working at home on a sharply cooler and fresher day but still fine and sunny after some overnight rain tending the garden, the fish and the doves and then writing and planning an election meeting. Then watching the Portugese Grand Prix at Estoril and finally witnessing the Michael Watson Boxing Tragedy.
I was very late to bed last night and even later to sleep as my mind was still active on election issues. I had finished my evening by watching a world title boxing fight between the repugnant Chis Eubank and the "good guy" Michael Watson. Watson had taken the fight to Eubank for just about all of the first ten rounds and then, in the eleventh, knocked down Chris Eubank for the first time in Eubank's career. He was then knocked down himself and at the end of the round and got up but could not recover in time during the break to defend himself properly at the start of the last round and the fight was stopped in favour of Chris Eubank with the crowd literally up in arms. However the referee was the better judge that the rest of us because Watson soon collapsed and was operated on this morning with a blood clot in the brain after a severe injury to the back of his head.

After waking up feeling sore and stiff, before packing up an leaving for a General Election Planning Meeting at The Hotel Norwich which preached assessing resources and targeting before driving home and watching some evening television and seeing the situation in Yugoslavia defies all optimism and the separatist Croatians are being rapidly beaten into submission by the (Serbian) army with peace talks getting no chance
I slept very well in my bed at Heronshaw but then woke up feeling very stiff and sore after yesterday's efforts. I just shaved and dressed before serving myself some cereal, tea and apple juice and then started working on the computer again. This time I produced some draft objectives for the general election campaign ready for today's meeting and just managed to do so and get the Range Rover packed up in time to leave for the Hotel Norwich. On arrival, I found a long queue for registration on what turned out to be a very well-attended and successful event.

The start of my trip to Horning, leaving later than planned to see the girls off safely with Della no longer a problem. Once I had arrived, I did some varnishing on The Paxton Princess, hosted a visit from Jack and then alternated between mowing the lawns, varnishing and picking the grapes/blackberries there.
Several phones calls about the Liberal Democrat "Council of War" and was interviewed for the CNFM Cambridge commercial radio station accordingly. A warm bath for my aches and pains and to bed.
My planned early start did not materialise because, although I was early, my calls on Diana's time clashed with those of the children and it was 8.30am before I managed to leave. At least I saw the girls off safely and Della did not seem worried about things for once. The journey went without incident but there was plenty of road-works which delayed me and meant that it was after 10.30am before I arrived at Heronshaw. I took my time unpacking and setting up things and, by the time I had eaten a snack and taken refreshment it was 11.30am before I could start work. I first wiped over the wooden parts of the Paxton Princess and then sanded them down ready to put on some more varnish.

Breakfast with the girls after a sluggish start and not much time in the conservatory before the gardener wanted to discuss priorities with me. Working at home preparing for a general election campaign training meeting and then some publicity tasks before preparing for my visit to Norfolk. Some time with Sally over St Neots Museum funding alternatives
After another late night I was again reluctant to get up and going this morning. Still made breakfast time with the girls and saw them off quite happily; giving Diana a reassuring cuddle as she still worries about Della. I went into the conservatory and sat quietly feeding the fish, but this did not last long as the gardener soon joined me and we chatted about the range of tasks that he has yet to do. The compost heaps are now fermenting steadily, and we hope to get rid of most of their mass soon. The games lawn now needs a fair quantity of top-dressing at this time of year to resume the process of trying to level it up.
