Start of a weekend outing and stay at The Burlington Hotel, Great Yarmouth, an afternoon on the beach and evening in the amusement park
Up early and after our morning drinks and breakfast, we load up the Jaguar as Daniella wakes restlessly. We decide to put her in the back of the second Escort Estate and took off to deliver it to my parents in Stanton. Daniella sleeps soundly but we arrive just in time to give the hungry girl a big feed. My parents are very pleased with the car, Mum tries it out (back and front) to sit in and Dad joins me for a trial run. After a chat, off towards the seaside. East on the A143 via Beccles and Diss, stopping at a roadside pub for drinks and a cheese/bread lunch. Eventually to North Drive, Great Yarmouth, and we arrive at the Burlington Hotel by 1.30pm and are shown to a nice room at the front of the hotel – number 29.

Using my new Executel terminal for my financial planning and booking a Yarmouth holiday hotel as the Miners’ strike hots up
A lay in and further breakfast TV update on the Olympics and then morning tea in bed reading The Financial Times and Business News. Then to my office and several phone calls on BMMG business. My telexes have been getting through and mail is arriving at last. Towards lunchtime Daniel returns and joins me for a ‘play’ with the Prestel terminal for most of the afternoon. Eventually after tea to use the free time to scan all of the financial and business information from Hoare Govett. Diana and I then use the system to enquire after holiday accommodation and we book a hotel in Yarmouth for tomorrow night to get a day or two in at the beach.

Full day of Computer Company visits to Hitech, Xitan, Byte Shop and LDR to find Kode’s initial window dressing moves a bit dodgy whilst I was feeling ill
Up quite early and to watch the morning breakfast TV coverage of the Olympic Games. Then off by car for my first appointments in Hampshire, firstly all the way to Southampton and The Byte Shop. The staff are young and new but they have just managed a record £200K month for July. Then to Hitech and Tim Roberts. An interesting two hour meeting and lunch courtesy of Hitech. Tim has followed the progress of BMMG and Comart over the years and felt more than a competitive rivalry. But now he looks forward to cooperation and involvement though only at first by means of membership rather than participating in the organisation. Off to Xitan and to meet Geoff Lynch and Derek Weatherby and to say goodbye and thank you. I learn that the new Kode management has started on the wrong foot with a good combination of indecision and conflict.

Buying Escort estates for Diana and Dad before a UKITO meeting and afternoon de-bugging my city information systems as 95 miners are arrested at Harworth mass picket
A late night and I awake this morning suffering badly with my throat and chest infection. Up anyway, shaved and dressed for breakfast and, after, in the car with Diana and Daniella to the Hunts Motor Company. In a meeting with their Sales Director, Mr Thoday, we buy two Escort 1300L Estate cars – one each for Diana and my Father. Then quickly to Lifesure to arrange their insurance; to Barclays to put my £900K-odd of cash back on 7 day deposit and then to drop off the girls to Little Paxton. Off to Borehamwood for my meeting with UK ITO and a good meeting and lunch where we decide on a fair programme of close cooperation, but no merger this year.
