A day of problems but I was protecting the frames with Cuprinol and the workers fitted a lot of masterboard which stiffened the wooden frame. A troubled start with the roofers who were late arriving and I was late getting the Marley Dry Ventilated Ridge so they could then only lay a token couple of felt layers which hardly sheltered very much of the work.
Debbie was playing with neighbouring Amy and Della was left lonely and jealous and I heard from Freda that Mum had an accident and hurt her "good" leg by running into it with her electric wheelchair
Up early again this morning and out to do some wood-staining. This time I went up on to the roof and worked my way around the dormer windows and then along the facia board applying the second coat. The effect was quite good, showing up the dormers and the final colour achieved with two coats of Cuprinol. The workmen cut and fitted a whole lot of 9mm Masterboard to complete the back wall and then, after fixing the last rafters and facia to the dyke-side roof hip, fitted more 6mm board on the front gable wall so that the structure was braced in two directions. The roofers were late to arrive today after their city job but then I was late getting the samples of Marley Dry Ventilated Ridge and so they only had time today to lay the lead to the valleys of the dormers and then lay a token couple of felt layers which hardly sheltered very much of the work.

After an early start staining cladding, I took Diana and Della over in The Jolly to the Horning Regatta Fete held on the village green by the river and then drove off and secured the timber, fixings and took delivery of the sewage chamber, pump and mechanism from T.W. Page & Son. And with the roofers arriving soon, we should be under a permanent roof next week.
Later I took Debbie and Della up to the playing field and both Debbie's tennis and Della's bicycle riding were progressing apace. Britain failed to win any more gold medals in the Olympics and we start the last cricket test match with Pakistan badly.
I was tired this morning after our late night and alcohol but still got up and out to start staining on time. It was also an uncomfortable night being too warm and muggy to sleep properly. Diana took Della to the doctor, and he got her ears syringed and got rid of a lot of mucky discharge and we now hope that her ears will heal up properly. Once they had returned, I took Diana and Della over in The Jolly to the Horning Fete held on the village green by the river but Debbie had gone off with Amy Dunham, a new friend that she had made form next door but one in the dyke. I bought a large Pizza which we all shared for lunch and then I left Diana to do some boat chores and the girls to make another visit to the fete whilst I drove off to get some more materials from Jewsons and Brumbalows.

As Di goes shopping and takes the girls to the Puppet workshop in Norwich, I continued staining all of the weather-board cladding and the workmen finished off the dormer cheeks, facia and soffit.
They now have only the valley-boards and some facia at the other hip to do before we are ready for the roofers to lay felt and battens on Friday. The news is of the big ANC rally that ends their week of protest action over lack of democracy in South Africa.
A little later to rise this morning and actually saw Diana get up before I left the boat to start work as she was due to go on an enjoyable unaccompanied shopping trip for once. First, she had to take the girls to a puppet workshop where they made their own puppets and performed with them in a play. Being too shy to go to the Dunham's swimming pool in Smallborough without me, they went to the Helska centre this afternoon, but the girls also accepted an invitation to join the Dunham girls in a trip to the Horning Sailing Club Regatta Discotheque.

The builders finish off the Harnser riverside hip and put up facia board as the building takes shape and Daniel helped me strimming the rest of the garden rubbish before he goes home.
Time visiting Jewson’s and phoning Marley to secure materials before we take a cruise aboard James and Bernice Dunham's boat and viewed the riverside bungalows first hand
A rather disjointed day with lots of interruptions to my physical work but several work-planning successes. I was up early enough and got my best staining work done whilst the family were still in bed. The builders arrived and carried on finishing off the riverside roof hip and then worked their way around putting up the facia board. The new building is now showing lots of shape and character with its hips, dormers and eaves overhangs and viewing it against the other buildings along the dyke in the morning over breakfast, I think that it will be amongst the most attractive of all of them.
