Walking Sam and working on Harnser on a drizzly and rainy day as Daniel worked on installing his car boot speaker and then helped me collect rubbish and take it to the civic amenity skip before going alone to his skating evening.
The Americans are discussing the option of another military strike against Iraq but are still smarting from criticism over their recent helicopter attack on the Somali leader
Daniel complained of me muttering in my sleep last night and my words were supposed to be "Oh No!". I knew nothing of this myself in the morning but now I have been accused of everything! My morning walk with Sam, this time in the drizzling rain which was to typify the weather for the rest of the day. It was strange weather really; the rain so fine and wetting that it was almost like being in a cloud and the weather so mild that, even in the rain, you felt like being in shirt-sleeves. Once back, breakfasted with Daniel and then he resumed work on his car boot speaker cabinet and I did a few things.

Walking Sam around Horning and working on the structural problem at Harnser, investigating and then tightening bolts on the building wooden frame. Some shopping with Daniel before he took his girl Dawn skating later on.
The forecast rebellion in the House of Lords, led by Margaret Thatcher, fizzled away today and there was a bonus for John Smith as a joint Labour Party/Union meeting recommended acceptance of planned reforms to bring "one-man, one-vote" to party elections
I slept pretty well last night, getting to bed around 12.30am and waking up with the dog at 7.30am. I had made up both of the beds from the foldaway unit and Daniel was comfortable as well apart from his being much the shorter of the two! Crept downstairs to wash and shave and then out to walk the dog. We found a lady with a young Retriever on the sawdust road and both she and I were happy to have the dogs play together for a while whilst we chatted. They come from Birmingham and she was interested in how I was training Sam.

After briefing my agents to act on our Horning planning situation, I set off to Norfolk with Daniel and found the Discovery front seats not as comfortable as on my former Range Rover.
Some shopping together and then Dan borrowed Dad’s old car for his date with Dawn. The weather stayed fine for most of the day, but rain was spreading from the west.
The government just managed a majority for a House of Commons vote to impose VAT on fuel and this went down like a lead balloon
Up early to tend to the dog on a morning when I was keen to get away for Norfolk and then had breakfast with the family. For once, Daniel was already up and about, and I did not have to call him with a cup of tea. It seems that my efforts are beginning to put him into a new regime! A couple of urgent items in the mail and so I had to attend to them. I had word at long last from Ekins Professional about the Norfolk planning situation and, having discussed it with Gerard Chadwick of Taylor Vinters, we are agreed upon making another application to vary the conditions and subsequently appeal against that.

On another cooler day with showers and finer spells alternating, I was tackling a much overdue task of maintaining Hayling View doors and windows.
This as Daniel and Gary helped us by taking a spare bed out of the "dining room" over to Bar Hill to Di's parents. News from Freda was that husband Alf having had a stroke which involved temporary loss of memory.
American helicopters under U.N. authority attack the headquarters of the Samali war-lord, General Aidid, but fail to find him there. More atrocities in Bosnia again as mortars kill twelve and injuring as many whilst queueing for water.
Another day attacking a long overdue job - this time going round The Hayling View dismantling door handles and catches for lubrication and repair and then opening the window security locks and oiling the mechanisms. Just managed about a quarter of those needing attention but did sufficient to make a difference and to give an indication of further maintenance needs. The house needs quite a bit of attention, but the overall state of decoration (with the exception of the conservatory) was found to be not too bad. Daniel still had Gary here and helped us by taking a spare bed out of the "dining room" over to Bar Hill to Di's parents, Charles and Norma's, place but I had to help him onto the Discovery roof rack and lend him the car.
