Guy Fawkes Night – Working outside with a very reluctant Daniel and then further researching the Linton manors and then off to Kimbolton Castle tonight for the firework display as Terry Waite returns with victory but concerns, Reagan loses both Houses of Congress to The Democrats  and the Hyde Park/Park Lane rapist is convicted

Even more reluctantly away this morning, but the family were still at breakfast when I struggled down in the end. Daniel was upset with me for being summoned home last night and not being allowed to go to Steve’s today, but I insisted on him staying at home. We went out to the riverside gardens and prepared the winches and slipway, before getting Aquabean up to the top for winter storage. It was a long task and quite tiring and Daniel was not much help, continually moaning about his fate. Then we straightened out The Lady’s cover, syphoning out a mass of water that had collected, finally propping up the dinghy to drain out. In to a smoked mackerel salad lunch and then I went out again to apply yet more touch-up paint to the Range Rover (!).

To the office after, making a number of phone calls about the Linton Manors and I think I have decided to buy them and try to resurrect the market and fair rights. They were jointly held with Little Paxton Manor and so there is at least one connection and, with my market background, I may be able to increase the investments value. All this took us up to tea time, when I sat after with Daniel to catch the TV, before taking the children to the Kimbolton fireworks display. A splendid effort, but Debbie was tired and a bit ill with a sore throat. She fell asleep on the way home. The news today is of US Shultz and USSR Shevardnadze (the Foreign Ministers) meeting for more arms negotiations in Vienna and more talks are planned, but no comments as yet. The BBC have strongly rebutted the allegations of bias, but Norman Tebbit stands by his criticisms. Terry Waite, the Archbishop’s envoy, has returned to London complaining that attention from the media is endangering his life, as well as the hostages, and is calling for some peace to get on with his work. The US Senate has been lost by Reagan’s Republicans to the Democrats and, with both houses of congress now against him, the US President has lost a lot of room for manoeuvre. A rapist psychopath has been convicted of four Hyde Park and Park Lane rapes, after his last victim, a social worker, kept her head and talked to him and gathered clues.  He had murdered prostitute Jaqueline Murray.
