Nelson Mandela holds first press conference

As my foot starts to heal after my best night for a long while, I spent time in the concervatory with plants and fish before hosting Percy and calling Sally talking about tactics for the FOCUS advertising campaign. I then I produced artwork and copy for the covers of my Paxton Princess manuals producing specifications and equipment lists too.

Nelson Mandela holds a press conference and there is an amazing spectacle of a live TV broadcast from South Africa with political factions - black and white - talking about the likely future for the country.

My best night for a long while and then my leg seemed to have also improved as, presumably, the antibiotics take their course in overcoming the infection and the wound heals up. Down for breakfast in my pyjamas and dressing-gown and then I ran a bath and got in before being helped by Di later. Once dressed, I went to the conservatory and read today's mail and paper whilst feeding the fish. The fish seem fine and the sunny spells are warming the conservatory and, with it, the water and making them more active.

To my desk afterwards where I received several calls and then a visit from Percy who came for a further supply of FOCUS advertising circulars. I prepared some for the Little Paxton businesses as well and got him to deliver these after he left here. I called Sally Guinee who had been visiting potential advertisers in both Priory and Paxton but had not been successful. I suggested that she try to enlist the help of Percy as having the sales experience. Later, I tackled the task of producing artwork and copy for the covers of my manuals for the Paxton Princess. I worked on this all afternoon and much of the evening, producing specifications and equipment lists too, and was quite pleased with the result. This afternoon, Diana had her friend Linda to visit, who wants Diana and I to be the Godparents at the christening of their three children, which is quite a development. My foot eased further as the day wore on and I am now considering making a trial trip to Cambridge tomorrow for lunch with Diana's family.

The news tonight continues to be of Nelson Mandela. He holds a press conference and there is an amazing spectacle of a live BBC TV broadcast from South Africa with representatives of most of the political factions - black and white - talking about the likely future for the country. We shall see. Indeed, we shall all see.
