Another working day dealing with Harnser staircase, electrician and Jewson account problems whilst continuing with Steve endlessly staining the cladding

I lay in a while after the double journey of yesterday but then settled down to paperwork and ordering as Steve got on with staining more cladding and Dave and Alan tackled the installation of the staircase. I faced one problem after another as I had left my papers in a muddle last week and then left certain of them back in Paxton when I made my flying visit. The Jewsons account was pressing, and I had managed to leave their cheque and statement behind as well but I went in later and saw their accounts lady and then put things straight with another. Ordered the electric heaters whilst I was there and then, after two visits, also some rainwater ware at a total of £170 compared with the £370 I had been quoted at B & Q!

The arrival (after chasing) of the planed edging this afternoon now means that the builders can get outside and work on the cladding to take advantage of any good weather. The biggest problem this morning was the discovery that the staircase design was faulty and would not give the two metres headroom under the tie beam that the building regulations require. We had to have the joiner over to review the situation and ended up with a possible compromise following some re-work. It was only late in the afternoon that I could get out to do any work and, after clearing the kitchen floor, I made up a couple of more kitchen units whilst waiting for the electrician to arrive.

In the event, he did not turn up and I had stayed in and was available for nothing. He telephoned very much later and seems to have got himself in a situation where he has a house without water with the owners away and returning next Tuesday and would virtually have to work nights to do our work when we want it done. I spent my time this evening staining most of the newly-arrived timber and seemed to have upset Steve again in some way as he already seemed fed up with having to do the staining yesterday and today. To bed a little late but pleased to at least know what the problem are and how we can tackle them.
