Lunching at the Riverside Restaurant in Wroxham,

After a colder night at Horning, the day walking Sam, working on Paxton Princess and lunching at the Riverside Restaurant in Wroxham, witnessing the care of a local nursing home in taking a party of elderly ladies being given the treat of a trip to sit by the river in Wroxham. On another long walk with Sam, Diana and I saw Farmer Gedge harvesting his barley and his friends staked out with shotguns to take any hares that were flushed.

It was colder last night than of late and we were pleased to be back in Harnser and able to use the facilities there. Sam was awake soon after 7.00am, unlike being in the boat or home in Paxton where he stays in longer. Out to feed him and take him on a run and I found him extremely enthusiastic about having it - marking his old territory with urgency. Over breakfast, I agreed with Diana that we would work on at our respective jobs and then go out to Wroxham for lunch.

She did a pile of washing and ironing and I worked on the boat, pulling up the carpets and floorboards, mopping out the bilges and then tightening up the flange from which I appeared to have an oil leak. Lunch at The Riverside Restaurant and then some shopping for me in the chandlers whilst Diana looked around the other shops. I was pleased to see a party of elderly ladies from a nursery home being given the treat of a trip to sit by the river in Wroxham. One needed actual physical support to sit upright and the others, no doubt, plenty of moral support. I was full of admiration for the carers that made it possible when so many nursing home owners just treat it as a business and provide the minimum. We all met up in the library where we each chose some books.

Once back, I fitted an extension handle to the outboard on The Jolly and some rubber stops to save Steven knocking the rowlocks overboard as he has twice done in the past! Back to Paxton Princess where I strengthened the chart table mountings, added better clamps for the emergency steering parts and then topped up the new batteries with fluid to keep them in good condition. I was going to take the family out to the cinema after tea but, being late, just took Diana out with me on a long walk with Sam. We saw Farmer Gedge harvesting his barley and his friends staked out with shotguns to take any hares that were flushed.
