Taking Sam to the school bus stop with Della on a nice, sunny and warm morning and then working him at Molesworth, checking in with fellow LibDems on Election work and hearing of Nigel's mistress revelations.

The UN/NATO ultimatum to the Bosnian Serbs has worked and now they must withdraw even further from Goradsne.

It was to be a full day but nice, sunny and warm to make it worthwhile. Out with Sam early and to the bus stop with the girls where Della enjoyed making a fuss of him now he is much calmer and more steady in her hands. I took him on to Molesworth and ran him across the fields there; keeping him under much closer control and using a variety of tactics to keep him watching me and taking notice of my instructions.

This was rather tiring and spoilt his rhythm but at least we made progress and he found and pointed but could not hold a partridge. I got a long call from Jim Bird and we talked through Saturday's pointing tests and he reassured me about the problems I had with Sam. Much of the day on election matters as I dropped off an EARS manual to Peter Pullen and collected a diskette with his Buckden canvass data on it. Another session with Sam in the afternoon but shorter this time as I spent lunch time and much of the afternoon with Diana at the Brampton Garden Centre.

We had a nice lunch and then bought a range of roses, shrubs and bedding plants to add to our Spring show. Changed ready for an early tea and then out to help with some campaigning and canvassing. I dropped off a computer analysis of the Buckden canvassing priorities to Terry Clough and then, as I could not find Louise at work in Eynesbury, I drove over to Offord Cluny and helped Derek Giles canvas the High Street area. A little time to chat to Derek afterwards about the Buckden campaign's difficulties at the end of which, I put him back into to supervise it and encourage Terry to co-operate more with the others in their mutual interest. A rush to get over to Nigel for 9.00pm; our appointed hour for a game of snooker.

He had called me earlier to request that I get the agent to reserve one of the upstairs flats at 50/52 Cambridge Street for himself and I therefore knew he had something significant to relate and I was not wrong. He told me all about his mistress, Kate Geeves (daughter of Little Paxton's headmaster Ray Geeves) and of his feelings for her and it seems he is head over heels and heading for trouble. I tried to tell him to take things steadily as they both had much to lose and it would all end in tears but he is too far gone. He is also honing his physical prowess by taking up Kung Fu but at least his knees have never been so good! Home late with a couple of large glasses of port inside me and to bed later still.
