A better night’s sleep and awake to hear of Daniel’s cheap gearbox repair before walking Sam and managing the gardener. Then setting off from Paxton for Norfolk after the panic to collect Della from school in Kimbolton.

There was no sign of any of this so-called "earthquake" that was supposed to have shaken Norfolk. I telephoned Jim and July Bird at Wymondham and they had seen and felt nothing. After arriving and sorting things out, enjoying baths and an early night.

An earlier night and better night's sleep to wake more refreshed than of late and determined to make a good start to the day. After my bath last night, just a light wash this morning and then dressed to be amongst the first down for breakfast. Daniel had come in late last night before I went to bed with good news of his car gearbox repair, and he was equally full of beans this morning at getting his automatic transmission completely overhauled at a cost to him of only £190.

I was smartly out with Sam, intending to get him ready to join the girls for their walk to the school bus stop but I forgot this after a while and just walked on with him, testing out my modified signals for controlling him at a distance. Then some swimming for him that went quite well but he is still reluctant to enter the water for distance work and the first retrieve of the day. Quite a good session with him nevertheless. Some time with the gardener, paying him for this last month's work and discussing priorities. He was all set to go off home due to the dampness underfoot, but I got him to do some more concreting of the riverside path to use up the aggregate instead.

Then Diana's help to get the roof box on to the Land Rover before she went off shopping and I loaded up the car with the things that I wanted for our trip to Norfolk. I was ready early in the end and so, after packing and loading up, I settled down with Diana in the lounge and watched Martin Sullivan's dog-training video. A telephone call shattered our relaxation as there came with it the realisation that Diana had got into a misunderstanding with Della over whether we were going to pick her up for school! We were expecting her to catch the bus but she wasn't and so I had to make the return trip to get her before we could get going. An early stop at the Croxton Happy Eater for lunch and then the journey to Norwich.

The Discovery held us all with the dog and all our luggage quite comfortably and the V8 engine pulled us all up hills and around roundabouts well. We stopped off at Tesco on the edge of Norwich much to my disgust for our supplies and then arrived at Harnser after dark. The place was all right with no sign of any of this so-called "earthquake" that is supposed to have shaken Norfolk. I telephoned Jim and July Bird at Wymondham and they has seen and felt nothing even though they were supposed to have been near the Swafham epicentre. The evening sorting ourselves out but Sam journeyed and settled well as usual, and we all had baths and an early night.
