Mum and Dad's graves
Mum and Dad's graves

A May day cemetery walk with Della and Sam to see Dad’s grave again and then home for coffee on the front lawn with Di to plan the rest of the day that was spent with my dog and family.

We ate lunch at The Happy Eater together before shopping for dog accessories in Peterborough and to the cinema with Di to Bedford

Both Diana and I slept very well last night and we were both reluctant to wake up this morning. I was slow to get up and ready for breakfast and had a struggle to feed Sam and get him ready to take with Della to see Debbie off at the bus stop. It was misty early on, but this soon cleared so that the sun was shining and the day becoming warm as Della and I walked on, through the village and then up Wood Lane to the cemetery. We left Sam tethered outside and then walked in to look at my parents' graves. The flowers had withstood the strong winds of these last two days and Mum's grave still looked a picture. I left Della to rest on the bench beside the small cremation place and went out to take Sam for a walk round the outside, startling another pair of partridges into flight, making the second brace of the morning.

Sam drank from some puddles and enjoyed some freedom for a while. The walk back took us past the remains of the hare, disembowelled by a passing car and Della was fascinated and horrified by this sight. There was a more welcome one later as we saw a live and frisky specimen of a hare, racing off across the field and I was pleased that Sam had not seen it, or I would never have stopped him! The walk back via the Park Way shops for Della to buy her Saturday sweets and then home for 10.00am. I got out the wooden chairs and Diana brought some coffee out to the front lawn and we chatted about our plans for the month. I had time to go through the conservatory and find the necessary equipment for catching and transporting Dad's Koi home and then it was soon time for us all to go out for lunch as Debbie arrived home. I drove them up the A1 and we stopped at a Happy Eater where I could shade the car from the sun a little as I had decided to bring Sam with us.

A nice meal and then all on to Jolleye's at Peterborough where I bought some new dove food, collars, leads, puppy meal and bones for Sam as the family waited in the car. We still needed some new bedding for him, so we stopped off on the way back at a pet shop. A quick run for Sam, an early light tea and then, leaving Debbie to bath Della and get her into bed, I took Diana to the cinema in Bedford for the early performance. Back before 9.00pm and time for my journal and a bath before tired to bed. Perhaps May is going to be a better month.
