Hosting a visit from Derek Giles and his son David. ostensibly to check over his election plans for my advice, but they were fascinated with my Theoben air rifle and wanted a demonstration.

Then to take Same to his Pointer-Retriever class at Harlow with only limited success.

The President of the Bosnian Serbs signing the Vance/Owen Peace Treaty today, but it still has yet to be ratified by their parliament next Thursday

Diana took a long lay in and I had to get myself up to tend Sam; getting washed, shaved and dressed and out before 8.00am. Even then I was not early enough to stop him messing in his run. On my return from giving him some good exercise, I cooked some bacon, sausage and eggs for the girls and the same with some mushrooms for me, but Diana would have none of it and did not like me doing it either. A visit soon after from Derek Giles and his son David. He wanted to run his election plans past me and to collect his cement mixer.

We had quite a chat, but I found that they had been following the same techniques that I had helped them refine when I was organising them and so the organisation had survived my departure. From what I could see, my Liberal Democrat colleagues would both win and retain The Eatons, Priory Park and Paxton by quite a good margin anyway but Buckden County would still be out of reach. We loaded Derek's cement mixer onto his van and then he wanted to see my air rifle and so we spent some time upstairs taking pot-shots at starlings, sparrows and a collared dove and he was very impressed. Soon time for lunch and then to take Sam off for his second Pointer Club training session.

These take place on the first Sunday of each month on some fields opposite the Eastwick turn on the A414 at Harlow. I was in good time and reasonably-well prepared but had some trouble with Sam during the lessons. He would not come back to me on recall when out playing with the other dogs and found some of the obedience lessons difficult. Typically, they were sat in a line or circle and one had to weave between them on and off the lead whilst the others were not to be distracted. Sam is so bouncy and sees so few people and other dogs that he finds this all too much, particularly having missed one month's lesson and two weeks' training whilst I was in America. He still learnt a lot and is improving.

I drove home and returned very tired but had to unload myself and make my own tea as Diana and the girls were busy watching The Simpsons on Satellite TV. The news today is of the President of the Bosnian Serbs signing the Vance/Owen Peace Treaty but it still has yet to be ratified by their parliament next Thursday.
