Beeson Hall, home of the 7th Baronet and Lady Preston
Beeson Hall, home of the 7th Baronet and Lady Preston

Catching up on messages and buying another ‘Trust House’ before lunch at The Riverside Cafe, Wroxham, and then the afternoon at Beeson Hall, home of the 7th Baronet and Lady Preston.

Strains of the music and steps of some Morris Dancers across the river outside The Swan attracted my attention and I took Diana and Della across in The Jolly to see them.

It was warm and sunny today for the most part but the clouds nearly produced some rain his evening.

The night was cool which made it much easier to sleep for me, although the family complained of my snoring in the morning. Sam was also slow to rise after the long walk last night and waited for me to get ready and attend to him somewhat later than usual. After breakfast, I made a host of telephone calls as a result of checking my answering machine at home. We are now going ahead with the purchase of another "trust-house" after the valuation was very satisfactory.

Diana did some housework and I worked on the last aspect; the front gate of the garden "dog pen". Daniel went into Norwich and was back to wash the cars and cut the lawns for money later. Lunch at The Riverside Cafe, Wroxham, and then the afternoon at Beeson Hall, home of the 7th Baronet and Lady Preston who open it on Sundays and Wednesdays in August. An interesting house and grounds but the family history more fascinating still. One ancestor, attending Charles 1st at the time of his execution was "given" his ring which it is still in the family possession and on deposit at The Fitzwillaim Museum.

Another was British Empire First Treasurer responsible for collecting taxes in Massacheusis at the time of the Boston Tea Party and probably lost the colony for us and another was Consul in Siberia at the time and place where the Tsar and family were siezed and murdered by the Bolsheviks. Not exactly a successful track record! The girls fought and behaved badly and only really enjoyed the walk down to see the ice house and donkey rides in the garden. Home for tea and then, whilst out with the dog, I explored some of the local country lanes and found the basis of a walk for the family another day.

Back to work on my gate; this time hanging it and finishing the job of securing the garden but not before another interruption. Strains of the music and steps of some Morris Dancers across the river outside The Swan attracted my attention and I took Diana and Della across in The Jolly to see them. Daniel took Debbie roller skating this evening which was his first opportunity to see Dawn, freshly returned from holiday and saying that they should now "just be friends". It was warm and sunny today for the most part but the clouds nearly produced some rain his evening.
