The Paxton Princess with a new domestic battery bank fitted
  • The day of Sam's vet visit and the renovation of the Paxton Princess with a new domestic battery bank fitted. Daniel came by this afternoon to run his speed boat before rushing back to see Startrek on Satellite TV!

I had an unsettled night and found myself awake at around 4.00am before getting back to sleep. Steven woke me up at 7.15am so as to get Sam's food organised and then I got up and joined him for breakfast before giving the dog the remainder of his run. Then the rush into Norwich to get Sam to his pre-arranged appointment with the vet but the verdict was a happy one when he arrived as he was seen to be recovering. However, because he still had his spots, he was prescribed another week's supply of antibiotics, but it was left to me whether to bring him back again for another examination.

  •

Back to Horning via Mann Egerton where I gave them the Range Rover maintenance manual and load-space cover and then collected new batteries for one of the Discovery remote lock/alarm controls. I also got them to look at the operation of the front suspension after Steve had commented adversely and they conceded that it was not as tight as it should be and will have to look at it. Once back at Heronshaw, I looked at the ship's batteries of The Paxton Princess and concluded that most of them had deteriorated after five years of use and then a season of non-use. I took Steve with me over to Brundall to see a supplier and bought a new set of four.

  • The rest of the day fitting them and sorting out the best two of the others for retaining as engine batteries so that we would have fully performing batteries for the domestic systems. Steve had made good progress on the outside of the boat, scrubbing off the decks and cabins and using rubbing-down compound to cut through the film layer on the gelcoat. Daniel came by this afternoon to try out his new battery and spark plugs and ran up his speed boat before rushing back to see Startrek on Satellite TV! A bath and then to bed earlier than yesterday with more confidence of getting a sound night's sleep.
